Too late for the bus

When Kara was done with beating some villians' ass up, she dropped him off at the DEO and finally flew back home. It was cold and quiet and she took a deep breath, enjoying the silence. The sun was already set behind the horizon and the lights of the city underneath Kara shone bright. A few seconds before she entered through the window she realized that Lena was still sleeping on her couch.

She got around the house and came in through the entrance, until she realized she was still wearing her suit. Heading into her bedroom she quickly changed into something comfy.

She walked back into the living room and over to the couch that Lena was still asleep on. She took a blanket and placed it over her best friend. Then she lifted a hand and stroked a streak out of her face and behind her ear. She lent forward and gave Lena a soft kiss on the forehead. Lena smiled and mumbled. „Kara."

Kara cleaned some things up in the kitchen and picked out some clothes for Lena to wear that were more comfy than the ones she was wearing. Then she called the delivery service and ordered two pizzas and dumplings.

Then she filled the glass of water on the table next to Lena and placed a painkiller next to it. Kara sat down by Lena's feet at the end of the couch and looked at her best friend. She knew her bruise was already pretty good and in a few days she would be alright, but it also still hurt.

The rang of the doorbell interrupted her thoughts. She stood up and checked the man delivering her food before she opened. Thanking him, she passed the money and closed the door behind her. As she walked to the counter she heard Lena moving on the couch. She unpacked the food and got over to the couch.

While she placed the food on the table and sat down to Lena's feet she watched the woman slowly waking up. A soft smile on her face was visible.

"How are you?" Kara asked, giving her the painkiller. Lena swallowed it and drank some water afterwards. The she smiled at Kara. "Better."

"Do you mind if I sit here and watch a movie?" Kara asked, her caring eyes on her best friend.

"Not at all." Lena sat up completely, scotched over and leaned against Kara's shoulder. "Which movie?"

Kara smiled and wrapped an arm around Lena. "You decide."

When Lena woke up, she didn't wear her clothes anymore. She wore some big and comfy clothes from Kara. She slowly sat up, looking around to figure out where she was. It was Kara's bed. She carefully stood up and took a sip of the water from the night table.

Lena walked over in the living room. Kara was laying on the couch, quietly sleeping. She looked so innocent, Lena couldn't believe it. Her hair was in a messy bun and a blanket laid over the lower half of her body. Lena walked towards her and covered her with the blanket.

She remembered that they watched a movie after Kara came home from work last night and after that Kara offered her the clothes. They brushed their teeth and Lena said she would sleep on the couch, but Kara was determined she was sick and she needed rest in a comfortable place. Even though Lena won the argument, like she always did, she fell asleep first and must've been carried into Kara's bed by the host herself. Lena grinned to herself at the cute dork of a best friend that she had.

She cleaned the table and walked in the kitchen looking for some breakfast. She came up with some toast and fruits and carried it over to the living room. When she was back in the kitchen, searching for tableware, she heard Kara calling from the couch.

She ran over to see her best friend sweaty and fearfully sitting up, her eyes wide open. She gasped for air, her face was pale. Lena quickly sat down next to Kara, wrapping an arm around her. The wrong arm. She quietly groaned in pain. Kara looked at her, scared and confused.

"Lena?" The woman stood up and kneed down in front of her.

"I got shot and wanted to rest by someone I love. We watched a movie after you came home last night, remember?" Kara nodded. Yeah, she remembered.

"How's your shoulder?" Kara lifted her hand to touch Lena's wound, but Lena took Kara's hand in hers. Her eyes were filled with compassion and care. "Kara. What did you dream about?"

Kara wanted to tell the truth. Just everything. But she knew that it would hurt Lena. She knew that she couldn't tell her. Not yet. Right now, Lena needed a save space and good rest. So Kara came up with a big dragon destroying National City.

"That is Supergirl for." Lena answered softly and smiled. She lifted Kara's chin and looked her deep in the blue eyes. "Don't worry. She'll save all of us. She'll protect us from whatever comes. You're save here."

Kara wanted to cry and scream and tell Lena everything, but she just nodded and smiled. Glad that Lena did have faith left in the hero that she used to hate so much, she answered, "yeah, you're right. Supergirl protects us."

Lena sat down next to Kara, this time the other side, and wrapped her healthy arm around her. "And for now", she said, leaning her head against Karas, "we are just here. In your apartment. Resting and eating."

She passed Kara a grape. Kara took and ate it, then she laid her head on Lena's shoulder, closing her eyes, breathing in the scent of her best friend.

They sat on the couch and talked about the most different stuff. Kara was bragging about her work, making things worse than they were just to see Lena smile and chuckle at the silly exaggerations and Lena told her about her current tops and bottoms in her life. Kara really was her best friend. And she was so happy with it. Every touch made her feel dizzy with the excitement and Kara's smile lightened up her heart. She felt warm and calm and forgot her shoulder and the relating story for the moment.

Suddenly Kara jumped up, a shocked face and widened eyes. "Work!" She ran over to her room and came out in a red skirt and a white shirt the next second. Lena smiled at the blonde. "You look beautiful."

"Thank you." Kara grinned dorky and looked at the floor, her cheeks flushed. Lena didn't even realize how fast her best friend had just changed. "But I really have to go, I'm late for work."

The CEO looked at her watch. "You wouldn't even get the bus if you ran. And also, I'm your boss. So why don't you just stay here with me?"

"I would really love to, but my other boss wouldn't like this." Kara grinned. "And I've got a meeting with a rich man in a few minutes and I have to get some stuff from work before I get there."

"And what about the bus?" Lena lifted her brow like she always did when she was in concern or wanted to tease Kara.

"I'll better go now, or I wouldn't get any bus." Kara smiled and looked apologetically at Lena. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay, I'll just check what to find in your apartment." Lena smirked and Kara nodded.

"Fair enough. But please don't make it dirty that dirty. I just cleaned up and Winn, Alex and Sam are coming over this evening." Kara looked at Lena, realizing she didn't tell her. "Oh. Sorry. I can tell them not to come if you-"

"Kara. It's okay. Really." Lena smiled. "Hurry up now!"
