Lena slowly opened her eyes. Her head hurt a little, but her shoulder felt much better. The room she was laying in was way much brighter then the one before. She carefully sat up. It was easier than the last times. Lena has woken up some other times before but she's always been in the same dark room. Now, the wall a few yards in front of her was a glass front. She could see into the main corridor of the DEO, at the right end of this corridor was the balcony and at the left end the central one.
Lena saw Alex and Supergirl walking by the glass front to the central one. As if she felt it, Supergirl turned her head and took a glance at Lena. She noticed that Lena was awake, said something to Alex who nodded and walked on, and went through the door. Supergirl stepped over to Lena's bed and sat down on it's side.
She quietly passed the woman a glass of water from a desk next to her. Lena took the water and smiled softly. She drank the whole glass and gave it back to Supergirl. Then she stretched herself and yawned.
"The painkiller makes me so tired, right?"
"It does make you more tired, but it actually is only made to let the body rest if it needs to. Yours seems to love it." Supergirl grinned and a softly chuckle escaped her throat. Lena looked up and the corners of her mouth raised a little.
"Was Kara here?" She looked hopefully at Supergirl.
"Yes. She visits you everyday." She smiled and pointed at some flowers on the desk next to Lena's bed. Lena turned to the desk and lifted the vase, bringing the flowers to her nose to smell them. The scent made her smile. It was just so Kara.
Supergirl stood up. "I see, you're fine. Call me if you need anything." The hero was about to leave when Lena grabbed her arm.
"Wait." Surprised that she could lift and move her arm without completely breaking down, she looked up. "I want to go home."
Supergirl looked as surprised as Lena. "Okay, I'll just-"
"No." Lena stated. "I want to go home now."
"Now? Like now now?" Supergirl frowned. "You mean you want me to fly you?"
"Yes." Lena said determined.
"Okay. It's just- The last time when I flew you, you threw up afterwards."
"You could be more careful." Lena smirked. She managed to stand up and looked challenging at the woman in the supersuit. "What are you waiting for?"
Supergirl picked her up bridal style and walked over to the door. Then she started to fly in the direction of the balcony. "No flying inside." Supergirl heard J'onn mumble, and she smiled to herself.
Lena wrapped her arms around Supergirls neck as they exited the building. The air blew softly through Lena's hair. She lifted her head out of Supergirls neck and looked down at the quiet city. It was late afternoon and Lena could see all the traffic she hated so much, but the noises didn't get up here. The whole scenery was just so peaceful and Lena started to relax. She breathed in the fresh air and watched the sun at the horizon. She smiled. Flying was another level of freedom.
Supergirl turned around a building and Lena realized where they were flying.
"No, wait." Lena said softly. Supergirl turned her head.
"I thought you wanted to go home?"
"Yes. But I don't want to go to my apartment. It's so lonely there." Her voice was vulnerable, just in this moment. More than she would've allowed herself with the hero, but something was different this time.
"Okay. Where should I drop you off then?" Supergirl asked softly.
"Can you set me down at Kara's apartment?" Hopeful that the hero didn't judge about her demands, she looked away. She didn't need another person telling her she did the wrong decisions.
"Of course I can, but I don't think she's home yet or has cleaned up." Supergirl grinned and Lena was thankful the hero didn't question if it were weird to just show up at a friends' house. But Kara wasn't just any friend.
"We are talking about Kara Danvers. Miss-everything-looks-wonderful. Of course it's cleaned." Lena chuckled at the thought of her kind and messy best friend that still managed to keep everything around her clean at any time. "And if not, that's even better. It just proves that she isn't that perfect."
Supergirl remembered how messy she left her appartement this morning and shook her head to herself. Then she hauled off. They flew through the window she had left open and the hero set Lena down on the couch. She turned around and called Kara's name, knowing she wasn't there because she was already standing there calling. The thing was: Lena didn't know that Supergirl was her best friend. Kara was too scared to tell her.
Lena sighed and Supergirl walked over to the kitchen, coming back with a glass of water a few seconds later, handing it to her friend.
"Thank you. Flying is great, but it takes time getting used to it." Lena grinned softly.
Supergirl smiled. "Is everything alright? I think you know where to find what you need and I am going to tell Kara you're here before turning back to the DEO."
Lena nodded silently. "Thank you."
Supergirl left and Lena laid down on the couch, sleeping deep barely after.
