Ellie sighed as she clicked reload on her computer once again, the internet had been acting up all week. The familiar notification popped up in the corner of her screen as she was once again disconnected from the discord call. She slouched in her chair, knowing she would have to type in order to talk to her friends. The seasonally cold weather was making her thumbs numb, it was going to be a painful few hours.
After a while everyone gradually left the call, Ellie's discord had been a chaotic dance between connecting and disconnecting.
She thought her router might be the issue, and decided to check up on it.
She sighed and tucked her long hair behind her ears as she stood up. She made her way downstairs to where the router was sat. She looked at him, "um hi" she said quietly.
He looked up and opened his eyes "oh hi Elanor"
"hey, i'm having some problems with connecting, i haven't been able to talk to Kyle all day"
He seemed to darken at the mention of Kyle name, "you know i don't like it when you talk to him"
She snapped her eyes up, "for fucks sake Rou, you can't stop me from talking to any boys"
He laughed quietly "oh Elanor, you have no idea what i am capable of"
"Rou please" she lowered her voice. "I haven't spoken to my friends all day."
He smirked, the kind of smirk that gave Ellie butterflies. He knew this and used it as a weapon.
"Do you really need them? You've got me"
Ellie swallowed and took a deep breath before replying,
"You know that can't happen Rou"
"I just keep imag-" Ellie stopped him, knowing full well what he was about to say
"Well don't"
"Elanor please, i know you want-"
"Rou. stop it."
He stared at her.
"I've missed you is all" he eventually said, the lights on his chest flickering back to green. Ellie sighed, she knew how much it hurt him, it hurt her too, but there seemed to be something deeper with him. Something he wasn't telling her.
She didn't move for a moment. But then muttered "thank you" and walked back upstairs.

She smiled at her friends bickering and clicked 'join call'.
"HI" Lily had screamed as soon as she joined, mixed with a quieter "hello" that signalled Tommy was in the call also.
"hey guys! I've missed your screaming"
"oh ellie, babe, you can hear my screams any day of the week" was Lily's swift reply.
Tommy snorted.
"anyway, minecraft?" she queried.
"join the realm"
She did so and they played happily, with the connection being normal for a while, obviously Rou had learnt his lesson, or so she thought.
