hi yes, i've been gone for so long and here's a self-insert angst i wrote to make up for my lack of activity!
tw: death, guns, too many mentions of the word "sob" and the variations of it, cliffhanger...maybeHer ragged screams echoed in the abandoned warehouse, bloody scratch marks littering the cement flooring. A twitching finger curled itself instinctively around the trigger of a well-used shotgun. Grey hair blew slightly with the draft from the broken windows above him.
A garbled moan came from behind the shatter-proof glass his group had installed to keep her in there until they could find a cure. His hand reached up to the fogged windows, a heart-shattering sob ripping itself from his chest.
"I'm sorry I didn't get there fast enough Ellie," His voice was soft yet broken. "If only we got there sooner. You wouldn't be like this." His self-inflicted guilt was pressing down on his shoulders constantly. His face was worn down by tears and scars.
His mind flashed back to when things were simpler, long before this whole mess started. Her smiles of joy, shrieks of her voice telling him to stop tickling her sides. A voice waking him up every morning before work, and him leaving with a kiss on the cheek those very same mornings.
"Babe~ You almost forgot something!" Ellie giggled while tapping her cheek playfully. He smiled in faux annoyance and grabbed her chin. Their breaths mixing as he leaned in closer to her lips. A pair of eyes watching him suspiciously now. His tongue quickly went up the side of her cheek as she squealed and punched his arm.
"No! Dude, that's disgusting!" Her hollers were heard throughout the kitchen. His chuckles echoing in the confined space of their apartment. Osamu stopped his laughter to gaze at his wife lovingly.
"How did I get so lucky?" He whispered lowly while reaching a hand up to stroke the side of her face with his thumb. Ellie giggled and walked into his embrace. His arms wrapped around her body tightly.
Looking through the window again he noticed the gash marring the side of her once flawless skin. A shaky sigh left his mouth when Ellie's decaying form turned towards him. Her frail and pale hand reaching out slowly, like a scared animal.
She quickly bolted from him with a banshee-like screech when the alarm system blared overhead. Osamu watched morbidly as he witnessed his once alive wife now slowly reverting into a mindless walking corpse.
He heard Atsumu shouting from the otherside of the wall, "We found an antidote! We can save Ellie!" He shouted while pointing excitedly at the form of his brother's wife.
Osamu looked up angrily as his brother's excitement started to infect the room. He heard Sakusa and Suna mutter hopefully. They knew Ellie before the incident, before she became... a zombie.
"It didn't work last time, why the fuck would it work now?" The younger Miya hissed while shoving his brother back into a wall. Atsumu's eyes narrowed at his brother.
"It will work because Omi-omi made it himsef!" Atsumu yelled while slamming his hands against Osamu's chest. The grey-haired twin grunted knowingly and stalked off to where Ellie's zombie was.
Suna and Sakusa groaned tiredly at Osamu's behavior. They stopped what they were doing when they heard choked up sobbing coming from the direction he stormed off in.
"It's time ain't it?" Atsumu whispered while pocketing the vial of acid into his sweats. Sakusa hummed while motioning for Suna and Atsumu to follow him. The crying grew louder as they got closer to Ellie's containment unit.
They all watched sadly as her corpse walked aimlessly around the pen. Osamu angrily hummed at their presence, "I know what's in there. You just won't give her a chance to recover." His voice trailed off when he watched the love of his life body slam herself into the dirty glass.
The sound reverberated in the concrete room, a screech of frustration coming from Ellie's mouth.
Sakusa gulped before looking directly into Osamu's eyes, "If you know what's in here, then you know better than any of us how hard it is to see her face but not have her soul here!"
Osamu stood up suddenly causing Sakusa and the two behind him to reel backwards. "Give me the gun," He ordered. Atsumu shook his head. Osamu hissed before yelling, "Give me the fucking gun!"
Osamu walked into the waiting area before her room, metal bars separating the husband and wife. A drop of salty water entered his mouth as he realized that he was crying.
"Wait- what are you doing?" Suna mumbled fearfully while watching Osamu load up the double barrel shotgun. The younger Miya clicked his tongue while aiming it at Ellie's head.
He stuttered with a tear streaming down his face, "You want her gone so bad? I wanna be the one to do that." His finger easily pulled the trigger as he watched his wife's body collapse on the floor.
"Now we can go, you caused this. I wanted to wait, but you kept pushing for me to put her down. This is all your fault, Atsumu."
