Aidan
I stood in front of the bathroom mirror, trying to smooth down my hair. I had bed hair. To the extreme. And my usual technique of wetting it hadn’t worked. Let’s just say, my day was not off to a good start. I had woken up way past my usual time and I needed to be at school in five minutes.
“For god’s sake, Aidan, hurry up!” yelled Aston, who no doubt was downstairs anxiously pacing down the hallway. I had forgotten how much Aston hated being late. It reminded me of Rylie. A smile rose to my face at the thought of my girlfriend then dropped away when I realised I had just compared her to Aston.
Sighing at my reflection, I ran my hands through my hair and messed it up even more. Oh well. It wasn’t getting any better anyway. I quickly threw on my uniform and grabbed my bag, walking down the stairs while tying my tie. “Let’s go,” I nodded to Aston, grabbing my keys from the bench.
“Finally,” he huffed, storming down the hallway towards the garage in front of me. Once we were in the car, the awkward silence that had been present every morning and afternoon ensued. There was nothing we could do. Neither of us wanted to talk and since our music tastes were vastly different, we couldn’t even listen to music due to our arguing.
“So that blonde chick,” said Aston after a few minutes. “Is she single?”
I glanced over at him, my identical twin, surprised he had spoken. I couldn’t help but notice that his hair looked perfect. “Who? Kelly?”
“The one with the big boobs.”
That was Kelly. I let out a long breath and clenched my hands on the steering wheel. On one hand, I could threaten him and tell him to back off, but that would get us nowhere. Or I could speak the truth to him and try to fix the damaged building of our relationship. “Last I heard, she was,” I replied, making my decision.
I saw Aston nod out of the corner of my eye. He looked out the window and was silent. “How many girls have you slept with?” he suddenly asked. I coughed and accidentally swerved at the abruptness of his question.
“Come again?” I asked once I was safely back on my side of the road.
He rolled his eyes. “How many girls have you slept with?”
I swallowed. “Why do you want to know?”
He shrugged. “No reason.”
“Two,” I answered truthfully.
His eyebrows shot up. “Really? Rylie’s obviously one but who’s the other.”
I gulped. I couldn’t tell him. It would only get back to Rylie and she would hate me forever. She knew she wasn’t my first but all I had told her was that it was a girl from soccer camp the year after Connor left. She didn’t know it was Kelly. “You don’t know her,” I lied. “It was at soccer camp about a year before Rylie and I got together.”
“Does Rylie know?” he asked. I nodded. “Huh, well. There you go. I thought for sure it would have just been Rylie. I remember when we switched parents for the summer that mum would always go on about your obsession with Rylie. I thought for sure you would have waited for her.”
“Well I didn’t,” I snapped. I ran my hand down my face. “Sorry. What about you?”
Hang on, was Aston… blushing? “None,” he said so softly I almost didn’t hear him. For the second time this morning, I swerved into the other lane.
“Are you shitting me?” I asked, shocked to say the least.
“It’s not that big of a deal,” he snapped back at me. “Loads of guys our age are virgins, despite what society wants to say.”
