" Dear Regulus,

Hello, it's James. As I promised, I'm writing to you. I've made it back to London safely and thankfully my father hasn't chopped my head off yet for 'loosing' a royal jewel.

I can't wait for your reply,
                     Sincerely, James Potter"

" Dear James,

Thank you for writing, I've been waiting.
Over here things are smooth and Sirius is spending his days with Remus and Marie in the same room. Apparently it's something about my mother wanting Marie to be pregnant, but I don't see why Remus would have to be in there too. But the echo in the halls make it sound like he's certainly enjoying it.
I'm so sorry, do you need the necklace back? If it reassures your father I haven't lost it. Actually I haven't taken it off since you but it on me.

I miss you,
                        Sincerely, Regulus Black"

" Dear Regulus,

It's okay, you can keep it. I'm glad you value it.
Talking about Sirius and Remus, how are they? Sirius hasn't been responding to my letters as punctually as you have so I'm not really up-to-date.
I've been working with my father day and night on the end of year accounting. It's tiring but at least he isn't asking me questions about my holiday.
How's your mother been? When will you know if Marie is pregnant?

I miss you too and I hope to see you soon,
                  Sincerely, James Potter"

"Dear James,

Sirius and Remus have been doing good. Sirius is a little overwhelmed by the amount of work he has to do so I've been helping him out. Remus pretty much just sits in the library all day reading and learning french. My mother has been okay but quite mean, as usual.
If Marie is pregnant we'll know in November. It's only September though but she's going to stay in the palace for winter and until she gives birth if she does. Then the child will stay in France and she will go back to Belgium.
How's work with your father coming along? I think I might be able to visit you in December if the winter isn't too harsh.
I'm starting school again tomorrow but don't worry, replying to your letters will always be a priority.

I miss you and hope to see you soon,
                   Sincerely, Regulus Black"

"Dear Regulus,

I'm happy to hear you could be visiting. London is truly beautiful in the winter, I'm sure you'd love it.
I'm almost done with the yearly income and death tax and I'll only have to validate birth certificates, after that and I'm a free man! I wish..
I'm excited to hear about Marie, Sirius must be quite anxious about it.
Wish Remus good luck for learning french, it's still a challenge even for me who's been learning it for years.
How was going back to school?
Today is the first day of October and it's already snowing up North so I hope it'll clear up.
You can talk to me about your mother. Sirius never really mentioned her but always said she wasn't the nicest of people.

It's really nice talking to you, I miss you,
               Sincerely James Potter"

Regulus read that letter. And then he read it again and again. He didn't understand what is was but this letter made him feel.... Safe.

He took out some paper and a quill and wrote a reply.

He told James about his mother and father. Everything.
He told him about how when they were young he was beaten to the ground daily for being feminine. He told him about how his father only barely missed shooting him when he was 14 and explained it was because he was a sinner. He explained that every night he cried because he felt so weak fighting his inner demons alone.

Regulus didn't know what overtook him but he wrote everything down, sealed the envelope and gave it to Alexandre, the mail carrier.

He thought about it and how he wrote everything. It was now marked in history that his mother and father were awful people and so was he. Everyone had demons. But no matter how much he tried to regret sending that letter, he couldn't. The feeling James' letter gave him made him feel safe enough to never regret anything.
