Chapter Seventeen
Seeking Truths
Carter's P.O.V.
I looked up from inside the car to see we were parked in front of the Lauriston Gardens Hotel, just outside of Lauriston Gardens. I undid my seatbelt and Michael brought his suitcase with him this time. "We have to get to Rachel Wagner," he whispered as we walked up to the clerk. "Any ideas on how to get a key to her room?"
"Maybe one," I smirked.
Michael walked past the clerk into the hallway and waited for me as I began to search my pockets frantically. "Oh my god!" I whisper-yelled.
"Excuse me, sweetie? Are you okay?" The clerk's polite tone made me want to vomit, it was something I hadn't heard for a while.
I held it together.
"No, I think I lost my room key card."
"What was your room number, darling?"
God, couldn't people take a hint!?
I broke out into tears, right there, in the middle of the lobby. "It's just....it's my mother's anniversary....and....I just wanted it to be the best....and now I've lost my room key card.....I just.....I don't know what to do....." I sobbed.
"Okay, well what's your mother's name?"
"Rachel. Rachel Wagner."
"Does room 308 sound familiar?"
"Oh yes, that was it! Thank you so much!"
"Be more careful next time, dear," she smiled, handing me the room key card.
Dear.....
I was absolutely disgusted by that word now....
Dear.....
I nodded at her before walking down the hallway to Michael and flashing the room key at him. He nodded with a smug grin as we entered the elevator and moved to the third floor. "Sebastian supplied us with more varieties of poison yesterday. We have powder to slip into a drink, the needle, a pill works great for slipping into food, and spray kind of like pepper spray."
"You got a bottle of water in that briefcase of yours?" I questioned.
"Uh......yeah, why?"
"I'm gonna need to borrow it."
"You plan on giving it back?"
"Not at all," I said, grabbing it out of his grasp as the doors opened with a cheerful DING!
One of the the maids women was walking down the hallway and I took this opportunity gratefully. I motioned for Michael to walk with me and he obeyed, following closely behind. As I came towards the woman, I turned to speak to Michael and ran into her, spilling some of the water on her blouse. "Oh gosh," I gasped. "I am so sorry! Let me help you clean that up!"
I grabbed a towel off of her cart and began soaking up the water from her uniform as much as possible. The woman sighed. "It's okay, young lady, just please be careful next time."
I nodded shamefully as she entered the elevator and exited the third floor. "What was all of that about?" Michael's eyebrows knit together in confusion.
"Getting this," I said, dangling her name tag in front of his face.
"Whoa, how'd you get that from her without her noticing?"
"I picked up this technique a while ago," I confirmed, thinking of Sherlock.
"Anyways, why do we need a name tag?"
