The tunnel was beautiful. There were paintings on the wall of each royal member and doors outlining the tunnel. I kept following the trail of blood, but it stopped in front of two double doors. For some reason, I wasn't scared. I was relieved. I placed my hand on the door handle. I couldn't open it. Maybe I was scared. Not for me, but the person behind the doors. I was standing in a puddle of blood. Once I got the courage to open it, a shiver ran down my spine. A shiver that I knew all too well.
"Why are you down here?" I kept my body facing the door and my hand on the handle.
"I was curious. This is my home. I have the right to be here." His footsteps were getting louder and louder until it was quiet again. I could feel his presence behind me.
"Let me rephrase the question. What brought you down here?" I knew exactly what he was doing. My dad did the same thing when I wasn't supposed to be in a certain room. I turned around and was met with very comforting, brown eyes.
"I haven't been down here in a while, so I thought I would revisit. Do you remember when we used to play games down here? Back when this family was actually a family."
"We are still a family." He moved closer to me.
"No. Parents don't drug their kids. Parents don't lie to their kids. You are supposed to be my big brother. Where were you when dad always hit me? Where were you when I needed you the most?" Tears were running down my face. "We were never a family. The only time I've ever felt like I was apart of this family was whenever we ate meals together." He took a step closer to me. I wasn't moving. I still had my hand on the handle.
"I'm sorry, but you need to com-"
"Actually, aren't you supposed to be with our family? I wouldn't know because I was never invited."
"Dad wanted me to keep an eye on you."
"No. I have a feeling that someone is behind this door, someone that I care about, and none of you want me to know who it is. Again, I'm excluded from family information." I had to get everything off my chest. "Maybe, if you guys included me on family things, I would have been more compliant with marrying Kita. Maybe, if I was allowed to leave royal grounds, I wouldn't have the urge to leave. There are so many scenarios that I could tell you right now, but nothing you do will change the way I view this family. It was always you, mom, and dad. The only time I felt like I was apart of something was when I was with Bokuto." He just stood there. "Say something. I know you want to yell at me."
"I don't want to yell at you. I'm doing this to protect you."
"Protect me?!" Now, I was furious. "How are you protecting me?!"
"Bokuto and Kuroo are in there. Kita and dad go down every night and torture them. If they know you were down here, they will kill them." This was the first time I let my guard down. Deep down, I knew Bokuto was in there, but I didn't think it would be real. "We need to go before they come back. Who knows what they will do to you."
"If I leave, you are going to tell dad that I was down here. I'm not stupid." He grabbed my free hand and started to pull me away from the door. "Stop. Let go of me."
"I won't tell dad. Honestly, when they told me that they were going to try and wipe your memories, I knew that this was more about growing our clan power than family problems. If they find out that you were here, they will be killed." At that moment, everything was crumbling. "I have always protected you, even if they were mostly indirectly. That day when dad told you about your arranged marriage and he hit you. I went up to your room and found you laying on the floor. I got one of the maids to change you, and I stayed with you a little bit." I remember. "If you care about them, we need to leave." My hand dropped from the handle. I followed him out of the tunnel until it hit me.
"My shoes."
"We can get you new ones."
"I had blood on my shoes." He seemed to understand what I was trying to say. He left me at the entrance of the tunnel and ran back. Within seconds, he was right next to me.
"They aren't that noticeable since you were wearing heels. Take them off. I'll carry you to your room." I slid the heels off and jumped on my brother's back. He carried me all the way to my room and helped me hide the heels. We both heard the sound of the gates opening. "Shower, and get into bed." I was too shocked to say anything. I couldn't stop thinking about Bokuto and Kuroo.
After a nice shower, I was able to recollect myself and my thoughts. I laid in bed, staring at the ceiling. It was completely dark outside. I remembered what my brother said. Bokuto and Kuroo are probably getting tortured right now. I needed to know. I got up and slipped on some slippers. I made it to the kitchen and made some tea. I decided to walk towards the tea room, but I heard some voices coming out from the tea room. I quickly hid in between some columns. My suspicions were correct. Kita and my dad probably just finished. Once they turned the corner, I entered the room. I opened the bookshelf and walked in for the second time today.
