"We need to get to FjordClan, now."

Sedgestar was meowing when Dewsplash and Aspenpaw had told her the bad news.

What's FjordClan got to do with this?

Sedgestar didn't hesitate as she rounded outside to address a group of cats sitting beside the fresh-kill pile.

"Larkwing, Spotberry. We have a patrol with Aspenpaw and Dewsplash, and Spotberry, bring Stormpaw."

The dark grey apprentice bounded over as he heard his name. "Where are we going?"

Sedgestar beckoned Stormpaw closer. "We're going to FjordClan."

Stormpaw tensed. "FjordClan?" Aspenpaw heard him mumble. The cats set out as Sedgestar lead the patrol. They passed the scent where Oakpaw was hunting, and then the cats stopped at the river.

Aspenpaw sniffed the air. This must be the border, She remarked to herself.

The patrol waited until Aspenpaw could she a flash of black. "Intruders!" It hissed, jumping back into the pine forest. Aspenpaw recognized the sound of Rookpaw, the newly made apprentice that she had met at a gathering.

Minnowtail, the FjordClan deputy, stopped herself at the other side of the river. "Greetings, Sedgestar," she dipped her head. "Have you come to wait for a patrol?"

Sedgestar nodded. "Greetings, Minnowtail. Yes, we would like an escort."

The cats hopped over the stream, and Aspenpaw got a better look of their patrol. Marshpath was with her apprentice, Rookpaw, and Aspenpaw recognized Roachpelt and Shrewlight along with them.

Aspenpaw had only seen a few copses of shrubs back at MountainClan, but she had never seen so many trees in one place before.

Once they had reached the camp, she noticed a few familiar faces. The apprentices, Iciclepaw, Talonpaw, and Mothpaw. She noticed the elders Darkpool and Pigeonstalker. She turned around and then saw Moosestar, the leader of FjordClan padding toward them.

"What is MountainClan doing here?" He growled to Minnowtail.

"They insisted an escort at the border," she replied. Sedgestar stepped forward and dipped her head. "Greeting, Moosestar. I wish to speak with you and Doeleap."

"What business do you have with our queens?"

Sedgetstar blinked at him. "It's about The..."

Moosestar seemed to understand. "Yes, you may speak with Doeleap and I."

What was that about?

Sedgestar had padded out of Moosestar's den, her eyes blank at the ground. Was she sad? The cats had went home and Aspenpaw was relived to feel the rock under her paws and the smell of her clanmates surrounding her.

Sedgetstar stopped at the entrance of the camp and beckoned the patrol inside, except for Aspenpaw.

"I smelled the... confusion scent coming from you." She started. "The tuft of fur from the thorn bush you found was belonging to a lost apprentice, Briarpaw of FjordClan. Doeleap was her mother."

Aspenpaw narrowed her eyes. "But the scent was fresh."

"That was good news, but bad news." The leader meowed. Aspenpaw felt more confused. "What are you trying to say?"

The leader hesitated, and let out a long sigh. Aspenpaw felt light-headed when she heard her next words.

"Aspenpaw, I knew where Sootkit was all along."
