I woke to a loud noise, and found I was in a soft bed. I slowly crawled out of that soft bed in search of the loud noise. "Jaime just let her be. I know you want to talk to her, get to know her, and so do I, but she's been in a very difficult situation. Just let her rest. And when she wakes, we can talk to her if she's comfortable." A sweet voice said through the door. I then recognized it to be Claire's voice.
I cracked open the door and poked my head through. "Mom? Dad?" I called. I covered my mouth quickly after. My voice sounded strange, like it wasn't mine. Mom and dad jumped. "Oh Holloway. Did we wake you?" mom asked. Dad just looked at me with a set of wide, blue eyes. "Yeah, you did. Um, how did I get to bed?" I asked. Before another word was spoken, dad walked up the stairs to my room. He opened my door some more and then enveloped me in a hug.
"Ye started crying in our arms, and then all of a sudden you had blacked out on us. Yer mother said its from the events catching up to you." He said. We just stood in silence for a bit before he spoke again. "Now, when did ye get a Scottish accent? It wasn't there before." I just shrugged my shoulders in response and buried my head into his chest. His arms tightened around me, and I felt a tear run down my face. I tried to hold back a sniffle, but it was to no avail, dad had heard it.
"What's the matter lass?" He asked with concern. I didn't respond with words, all I could do was wrap my arms around his torso tighter and squeeze, just to try and keep myself from breaking down completely. I could feel mom looking at us, but I just ignored it. I heard her soft footsteps climb the stairs. I could tell she was trying hard not to disturb us. But at that moment, I couldn't hold onto my tears any longer. I just let them fall down my face, while crying loudly into dads chest. But all to soon the moment was ruined by a new voice shouting, "What is going on in here? Who's the lass?" I pulled away from dad and headed back into my room to compose myself. I sat on the bed and listened for a bit. "We'll explain later. All you need to know at this moment, is her name is Holloway, and she'll be staying with us for a while." Mom said. I could just make out a huff and a pair of feet walking away.
Mom and dad stood there in the hall for a little bit longer, whispering to each other. I tried so hard to get it together, but it was to no avail. I just stared to cry again, louder this time. A set of footsteps could be heard pounding up the stairs, but I couldn't comprehend who it was, until a set of strong arms wrapped around me. I realized it was dad, as he was holding me tight. A soft set of footsteps then came into the room, this time I knew it was mom right away. Dad spoke up, trying so hard to get me to stop crying. "Come now lass, I think you need to get something off yer chest." I only nodded my head in response. Dad took that as a sign to pull away from our embrace and look at mom. The look they shared was one of mystery, for I could not tell what they were silently telling each other.
It was silent for a bit, until mom pulled up the vanity stool. She sat down in front of me, grabbing my hand gently, while dad brushed my tears away. "Now, when your ready, you can tell us why your upset." Mom said to me. I took a few deep breaths before I started talking. "It was a day like any other. I awoke to my parents yelling. I bolted out of bed that day since they were so distracted. I went into there study, the only place I wasn't allowed to be. I was just snooping around, but then I saw these papers on my dads desk. I looked closer, and they were adoption papers. My adoption papers. I was born in Inverness, Scotland, but raised in Canada." I paused, letting them sink this bit of information in.
"My parents, or really the people who adopted me, lied. They told me my birth was the happiest day of there lives. But it was really my adoption that was. I never told Emmett or Amber that I saw the papers. I didn't want to believe what the papers said. But they finally gave me some answers. When I woke up to you guys whispering, it just brought up that day is all." When I was done, I couldn't bare to look at the two people in front of me. I didn't want to see the looks that you would give a kicked puppy. But suddenly moms hand around me squeezed tighter in comfort. Then strong arms were circled around me once more. Oh how I already love these people.
After sitting in silence for a while, I started to get sleepy again. "You, Holloway, are my distant cousin. I am on of your ancestors. But as of today, I am now your father. Non't you ever forget that." Dad said into my hair. My answer was brief, but it was true. "Never in a hundred years will I forget." Soon I fell asleep in my new fathers arms.
Sorry this took so long to update. And yes I know you don't get an accent in one day, but I think it makes this story a tad bit interesting.
