Eight | Uncool

I finally worked up the nerve to go back to my cabin late in the afternoon the next day. Leo got a good laugh out of what I'd witnessed, and Will finally told me to just go back.

"There's no way he's still there with her." he said.

"He usually makes them leave before 10." Eli smirked, looking down at me from his bunk bed. I groaned and headed for the door.

"Fine." I grumbled, opening the door. "Thanks for letting me stay the night. Even though someone-" I shot a glare at Leo. "Stepped on me in the middle of the night." Leo just laughed in response. I said goodbye before slowly making my way back, knowing I was in need of a shower. I said a little prayer to whoever or whatever was listening that Hal wouldn't be here, but apparently no one was listening.

I scowled when I saw him lounging on his bed, a book in his hand. He looked up at me, a blank expression on his face. I was pissed, really pissed. I was trying to keep my mouth shut as I went to my bag, looking for something to change into after showering.

"You know what." I muttered, suddenly too angry not to do anything. "That was really fucking uncool." I snarled at him. He set his book down and sent me a glare.

"Was it?" he questioned. I let out a frustrated sigh.

"I thought we had a truce! We share a space, Hal. But apparently keeping it in your pants, or at least going somewhere else was too much to ask!" I shouted.

"Her roommates were already back. Didn't have anywhere else to go." he shrugged. I groaned.

"We're in the middle of the fucking woods! There are miles of land you could go fuck on! Why not go there!" I angrily shouted. Hal snickered.

"I don't know what you're into, but-"

"Just shut up!" I interrupted him. "The bare fucking minimum. That's all I asked." I glared at him. His expression softened slightly, but it was so fast I chalked it up to my imagination. I let out a huff as he just looked at me, a stoic expression on his face as I grabbed my clothes and went into the bathroom, slamming and locking the door shut.

When I was done showering, Hal was gone. I let out a sigh of relief and laid down on my bed, allowing myself to relax into the uncomfortable mattress. I felt a twinge of regret run through me, feeling bad for yelling at Hal. But I'd given him a chance, already talked to him about how we could make it through this trip without killing one another. And he blew it within the first week. I rolled onto my side and felt my eyes closing, my uncomfortable and brief night's sleep on the floor catching up with me.

The sound of loud banging on the front door woke me up, making me sit up straight.

"Andy! Is he dead? Could Hal have really killed him?" I heard Leo's voice through the door.

"No, Leo. He's probably just in the shower or something." Will said, banging on the door.

"I'm coming." I groaned, getting up and heading for the door, pulling it open to see it was dark outside.

"How long have you been asleep?" Leo asked, pushing past me to get inside.

"You can come in I guess." I mumbled, opening the door more so Liam and Will could come in.

"You weren't at dinner." Will said, watching Leo and Liam flopping down onto my bed.

"I fell asleep." I responded, letting out a yawn.

"Well, we wanted to make sure you weren't murdered." Will said,  sitting down on my bed next to Liam and Leo.

"Thanks, I guess." I grumbled, closing the door and standing at the foot of my bed. "What do you want?" I asked.

"We're gonna play a night game. Soccer versus football." Liam smirked.

"The football players want to play us? In soccer?" I asked, confused.

"Well, two games. One soccer, one football." Leo elaborated.

"Oh, okay cool. When?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

"20 minutes. Come on, we're gonna be late." Leo said, jumping up and pushing me towards the door. I groaned as I followed them to the field outside the main hall, seeing the junior football players were already there.

"Hey, boys." Brett, the captain, said, smiling as he strutted over to us.

"Hey, Brett." I greeted, figuring it was best if I talk since I'm the captain of the soccer team. "What're we starting with?" I asked.

"Soccer sound good?" I smiled and nodded.

"Sounds good." I answered. I joined my team at one end of the field, Lucas setting up his phone with a timer and a few people around the field watching. The moon was large and bright, illuminating the field so much that we didn't need any lights in order to see.

We started off very strong, which was unsurprising considering this was our sport and what we were best at. They did have a few good players, which surprised me, but it was just a lighthearted game, so no one paid much attention to the score. Except for Leo, who knew we were beating them by roughly 30 points. We, unsurprisingly, were declared the winners of the soccer game before we decided to switch to football.

"Offense or defense?" Brett asked. I looked back at Leo to see him shrug.

"Offense." I said, not entirely sure which would be best for us. Brett smiled and walked back to his team.

We were a lot worse at football. The football guys were a lot bigger than us, making us easy to tackle. Nonetheless, it was still a fun game even though we lost by a solid 21 points. We all said our goodbyes around 3 in the morning, the spectators also dispersing and heading towards the cabins.

"Come over here if you need to." Will said as he stopped outside his cabin. I nodded and thanked him before continuing along the trail.

Hal was inside, reading on his bed with a pensive look on his face. I scowled when I saw him, trying my best to ignore him as I grabbed pajamas and headed towards the bathroom to rinse off the mud and grass all over me from playing. I was expecting Hal to be asleep when I exited the bathroom, but he was still sitting in bed reading.

"I'm sorry." he said, not looking up from his book. I sat on my bed, looking over at him. I let out a scoff.

"Whatever." I answered, moving to pull the blanket over me.

"I mean it, Anders." he said, the sound of my name making me look over at him. "I'm sorry." he repeated, meeting my gaze.

"Don't say that unless you mean it." I grumbled.

"I do. I messed up. You're right, we have to share this space for another week and a half. I don't want to make it more miserable than it already is." he said seriously. I took a minute to absorb his words, nodding slowly.

"Good." I finally said.

"Good." he repeated. I nodded and got under the covers, pulling them up and turning to face the wall.

"Night." he said.

"Night." I responded, still looking at the wall.
