The next day after Shadis was testing us with our balance by hanging us up while we were being held by wires. This was definitely different from what you expected from what they could've made to kill Titans. Although it took a while to get your balance, you managed to stay still. Mikasa was next to you and had no trouble balancing, everyone else seemed to have no problem expect for Eren who was hanging upside down.
You were sitting with Bertolt and Reiner in the mess hall and we're chatting about the day while everyone else was doing the same. You were trying to keep your distance away from others, the only people you were mostly seen by were with Bertolt or Reiner and sometimes Annie. Out of nowhere Eren came in with his head wrapped in bandages while being taken to a table by Mikasa and Armin. You felt kinda bad as he seemed to have a determination to kill Titans, but couldn't even pass the their first test with ODM gear. After finishing their food everyone went to their barracks to go ahead and sleep. When you went over to your bunk which you shared with Bertolt, you found him and Reiner talking with Eren and Armin with ODM training.
You decided to join in their conversation as Eren noticed you. "Y/N! Thank god you're here, you have to help me with my balance. You did well right, teach me how to do it!" Eren said sounding desperate to learn. "Uh, I'm not the guy to get advice from." You told Eren not wanting to sound harsh. Eren was about to speak before Bertolt said something that caught your interest. "You two are from Shiganshina right?" Bertolt asked Armin and Eren.
"Yeah were both from there." Armin replied towards Bertolt's question. "Why do you want to be soldiers if you both know first hand how terrifying they are?" Bertolt questioned Armin and Eren. "Well, Eren saw all the blood loss from all the Titans. While I couldn't sit still after the government's failed operation." Armin said. "I see, those both seem good reasons to be soldiers." You said after hearing their reasons. "So, where are the three of you from?" Armin asked, this caused you to tense a little. Luckily, Bertolt answered saying that we from a village south east from wall Maria. As he told how you three encountered the Titans it was clearly the same story from that man that hanged himself those years ago.
As you, Bertolt, Reiner, Armin and Eren snuck out of the barracks onto a trail to go visit a lake to give Eren some encouragement. Bertolt was telling what he was going to do when he became a soldier. Bertolt said he wanted to be an MP to value his own life. "It's no shame to value your own life Bertolt." Armin said respecting Bertolt's reason to be a soldier. "Do we? I'm going to retake the home that was taken from me, no matter what." You said while looking at both Reiner and Bertolt as they all stared at you. "What about you? Why did you sign up?" Bertolt said breaking the silence as he looked at Eren. "Why'd I join? I joined because I decided I wanted to kill them." Eren said referring to Titans. You tuned out the rest of what Eren said not wanting to hear him yell about Titans. After walking on the trail for a couple of minutes you all made it to the place. You all stood over a cliff as the clouds moved revealing the moon as it shined on the lake.
"Take it from step one, belt adjustments." Reiner said looking at Eren. By tomorrow you'll be an expert." Reiner said turning towards Eren. "I can see you've got what it takes Eren. I know you'll pass the test, after that you can be that Titan killing you also say you are gonna be." You said smiling at Eren. "Thank you Y/N I appreciate it." Eren said as you all began the journey towards the barracks.
The Next Day
Everyone was gathering in-front of Eren as he was getting lifted. "Eren I know you can do, you have the guts." You mentally said as he was slowly getting lifted to be tested by Shadis. As the lift stopped Eren managed to stay still which caused everyone watching to cheer. Although it didn't last long as he soon flipped over. "Well there go his dreams." You thought before Shadis suddenly told the cadet lifting Eren to switch belts. To everyone's surprise, after Eren switched belts he became an expert at it. "Your gear was malfunctioning, maybe if you had functioning gear then you may not be useless after all." Shadis said causing you to get shocked. "So it was his gear?" You thought before hearing whispers around you. "He did it with broken gear?" "Amazing" You heard random cadets say. "Looks like he really was an expert." You said smiling at Eren. "Look his eyes are saying check me out." Armin said. "It's not. His eyes are saying he doesn't have to leave me." Mikasa said while looking at Eren. Everyone looked at her weirdly for saying that before looking at Eren proud that he managed to make the cut.
Two Years Later
You were at the front of the group while the rain was hitting your face. You looked back as you heard Shadis yelling at Armin. You began to slow down as the others passed you as you reached where Armin was slowly getting left behind. "Come on Armin catch up." You said as you grabbed his backpack and slung it over your shoulder. "We're being graded you know, so catch up so you make the cut." You told Armin. Unknown to both you and Armin was Shadis watching you on his horse. "Y/N L/N although skinny and slim, he has the strength of an ox and always is kind with others." Shadis said mentally. Soon Reiner went towards you and Armin and grabbed the backpack from your shoulder to carry it. "Come on Y/N you're gonna get a lower grade for helping, so give me that bag." Reiner told Y/N after grabbing the backpack. "Hey won't you both get lower grades for helping." Armin said weakly as he was trying to catch up. "Only if we're caught, just make the cut and we're even alright." You told Armin. Shadis was studying Reiner before noting him. "Reiner Braun, the mind and constitution of a grass-fed ox, respected with others." Shadis said mentally as Reiner began moving towards the rest. "I'll rather die than be a burden." Armin said as he grabbed his backpack and began running to join the rest. "Armin Arlert, built like a daffodil, but academically brilliant." Shadis noted.
Narrator POV:
As the Annie, Bertolt, and Jean began moving towards the Titan dummy with their ODM gear with the others. Annie and Bertolt both made deep cuts in the dummy Jean slashed at the dummy as well, but didn't make a deep of a cut as Annie or Bertolt. "Annie Leonhart, gifted with a sword, but isn't the best with others. Bertolt Hoover, heaps of talent but too mannered. Jean Kierstien, head of the class in ODM, but a smart-ass with a hair trigger temper." As Jean began moving towards another dummy, Connie came in trying to steal the kill, but before he could attack Sasha made a deep cut in the dummy. "Sasha Blouse, has instincts that she won't share with her teammates. Connie Springer agile on the switchbacks, but two sandwiches shy on a picnic." As people began lifting Titans, Mikasa quickly sliced their napes as Eren tried too as well but didn't make a deep cut as Mikasa. "Mikasa Ackerman, model cadet, it isn't an overstatement to call the girl a genius. Eren Jeager, lackluster in the classroom, far better in the field. However, driven by a sense of purpose that is almost terrifying."
Y/N POV
As you and Bertolt were training in hand to hand combat, you managed to beat him again but noticed Reiner get beaten by Eren as well. "Are you holding back Reiner?" You ask yourself before helping Bertolt off the ground. As you looked at Eren and Reiner again you saw them both approaching Annie who had the same bored expression during training. "Uh oh Reiner, are you making Eren fight her?" You questioned as you saw them approaching her. Your suspicion was corrected when Annie got into her stance as so did Eren. As you expected, Annie kicked Eren as you heard him scream in pain. As Reiner told Annie something she approached the already hurt Eren as she flipped him onto his back. Annie tossed Reiner the knife as he tried to attack her until he became like Eren folded on his back. You approached Reiner and Eren a little worried if they were dead. "Hey you okay Reiner? Eren?" You said looking at them helping them up. "Yeah I'm fine, hey Y/N why don't you fight Annie?" Eren said handing the knife Reiner dropped to you. Hearing this caused Annie to turn around and stare at you before getting into her stance. "Hey wait I never agreed to fighting her." You said a little scared before Eren shoved you towards Annie. You decided you had no choice and got into your stance.
