A shorter chapter than usual, but we're back into the swing of things at least. A certain British rider will show up in the next chapter ;)

The hit wasn't THAT impactful, but you at least got the guy off of Johnny and crashing onto the next booth. He was obviously stunned, holding his head and groaning in pain. You were waiting for him to get up, but quickly remembered Johnny was possibly injured, leading you to turn your head back to where he was dropped on the floor.

You knelt down, trying to support him the best you could be letting him slump an arm over your shoulder. He didn't look hurt, only extremely irritated. You go to put him back in his chair, only for you both to be thrashed again by the man, now with his hands wrapped tightly around your neck.

Scratching his grotesque, calloused fingers, you felt the air rapidly escape your body. Your eyes rapidly blinked, mouth agape with a bit of drool escaping on the side as you struggled. Your attacker mumbled something in your ear that you couldn't make out, the noises in the restaurant turning into a flat beeping sound. If you could, you would've scoffed. What were the odds of you possibly dying by some sleaze in a place like this, right in front of your rival no less?

The grip quickly lessened on your neck as you saw (in your very limited sight) that the man was hit somewhere in the torso. With a loud thud, he fell back onto the wooden floor, there's no way he wouldn't have a concussion from it. You fell to the ground coughing, trying to grasp any type of air you could. You payed no mind to the guy's girlfriend and a few others going to the man to help (or preferably scold) him. Meanwhile Johnny crouched down beside you to check if you were okay. He couldn't do much in terms of getting you back on your feet, but you could faintly hear his voice full of concern.

"Hey, sorry to say this, but we should probably get out of here.." His hand was resting on your back to support you. Even in the midst of all this you couldn't help but notice how...uncharacteristically gentle his touch was. It would've felt more nice if you hadn't nearly just been choked to death a few seconds prior.

As you got up, Johnny went to calmly pay the tab and attempt to avoid any repercussions the two of you would've faced for causing such a ruckus. You overheard the people examining the now unconscious man exclaiming that he was somehow hurt without even being touched.

This was the second time that had happened today...you couldn't help but realize that was a bit weird.

Whatever was the reason he was forced off of you didn't concern you anymore. You wanted that scum out of your eyesight and leave with Johnny as soon as possible.

Soon enough, the two of you were back on your horses and headed...god knows where. You were still a bit shaken, so you were just following him. He had glanced behind himself at you a couple of times, his baby blue eyes scanning your figure. There had been an awkward silence ever since the two of you left. Not that you particularly minded it but, it looked like something was on his mind.

"Hey, you sure you're alright? Nothing broken?"

Your mouth opened, ready to answer with a quick 'no', but then realized.

...why did he care?

"No, I'm fine." You averted his gaze. He was giving you that elongated stare again, just like back at the burger joint. You didn't know how long you would be able to keep a straight face. "I swear I'm okay. I have supplies in case of emergency anyway."

"..." He paused for a second, then turned back around.

"By the way, did you happen to catch what happened to that guy that knocked him down?"

"No." Something about the way he answered seemed..too quick. Why didn't he see what happened, anyway? Was he really stunned for that long?

You decided to stay quiet about it and simply accept that as his answer. It didn't matter anymore, but you'd keep your eyes peeled for the next strange occurrence. For now you were more curious about where he was leading you to.

"So, where are we going now, cowboy?"

He let out an annoyed sigh at the nickname. "First of all, don't call me that. Second, from the map I swiped, there should be a nice forest clearing near the town up here. I made sure to at least get us to-go plates, 'm sure we'll get some peace over there to finally eat."

You scoffed. There was no peace for either of you in the last 48 hours.

At least he was trying, though.
