"Well look who's here, its Johnnyboy."

Gyro's half lidded eyes and teasing smirk were something Johnny didn't even know he missed.

As soon as he got the chance, the ex-jockey rushed back to the hospital his companion had been resting in to see if there was any news on his condition. Thankfully they had enough money to pay for his treatment, all that was left was for him to finally wake up. Johnny had lost track of how many times he prayed for his friend to return to him.

The Italian had been sitting up, reading the newspaper ever since Johnny came in the room. His hat was still on his head, for whatever reason.

"Glad you finally came 'round. I was just about bored to death reading the same headlines. They should get some better reading material in this place." Gyro flung the newspaper on the lamp table beside him with a smack!

The smaller man only nods. He hadn't really processed that he was this close to losing another person close to him. Thank whatever supernatural force that was working on his side that didn't happen.

"So.." Gyro continued. "What have you been up to in the meantime? Hopin' you haven't been in the corner brooding all this time."

Johnny brushed off his joke. "Nah, I ran into some trouble and ended up making a new ally."

Gyro's eyes widened, sitting up straight and giving his friend an incredulous look. "Woah woah back up there, what happened?"

The ex jockey explained what had gone on the past couple of days. He could understand Gyro's concern, but since he was clearly unscathed, there was really nothing to make a fuss about. If anything, what made him nervous is how he was going to tell him you were planning to ride with them after Gyro leaves this place.

"So you just...picked up a chick?" The cowboy raises an eyebrow.

"To be fair it's more like she picked me up, she's the one who forced me to go to the damn hotel."

"Why the hell didn't you just shoot 'er and move on?!"

Johnny sighs. He was making this harder than this needed to be. "I guess I could've but then she told me her sob story and I didn't wanna feel like an asshole if I just left right then and there."

He already felt like one after calling what you told him a 'sob story'. Sure he thought it was kinda absurd you held a grudge against him for it, but you didn't deserve that kind of disrespect. Was he just irritated right now or was he saying it to partially side with Gyro?

"Look, she's cool alright? I already told you she doesn't like Diego either so you guys have something in common, yeah?"

Gyro grumbles.

"So how long do you intend to have her on your tail? Are you trying to travel with her or something?"

Johnny's lips purse into a straight line, knowing this was coming.

"...What? You already said she was a shit racer, don't tell me you want us to ride with her."

The shorter blonde's fists nervously clenched in his lap, peering down at the floor. He really didn't want to upset Gyro, especially after he just came out of a coma of all things.

"Look, Gyro, I already gave her my word. It'd be dickish to be like 'oops, nevermind you can't be here'. Besides, you have faith in me as the 'genius jockey', right? I'll figure it out, I promise."

"Johnny--"

Johnny suddenly feels his vision get hazy and dark. Confused, he quickly puts a hand onto his eye, trying to feel if there's something obstructing his sight.

The white hospital room starts fading out of view, slowly cascading into black.

"G-gyro?! Where are you?"

The jockey hears his name being yelled by his friend, sounding like its getting more far away by the second.

"Gyro!"

He couldn't see anything anymore, and felt like he was being dragged away.

.::.

"Hey, Johnny! I swear you'd better not be dead!"

Slowly but surely, His eyes flutter open to see your face hovering above his. He jumped up, startled to see that not only was his vision back, but he was suddenly outside the hospital where you had been waiting.

"(y/n)?..." He said your name, holding his head. "How'd I get back here?"

You blinked. Truth be told, you hadn't even noticed he was out here until you heard him groaning on the ground.

"I don't know. Are you hurt?" Not sure if he was comfortable with you touching him, so you just closely examined his body to check for injuries.

He pauses. He wasn't physically hurt, but he wanted to know what that blindness was caused by. After a minute of thinking, it's definitely not out of the question that it was a stand attack.

Unfortunately, the lady at the desk turned Johnny around when he tried to come back in. Apparently the patients are only allowed one visit per day when they're in critical condition.

"What are you talking about, Gyro looks fine!" Johnny yelled back.

The lady begged to differ though, walking him back to Gyro's room and looking through the window of his door.

The Italian cowboy was sleeping again, his pulse just as low as when he first entered the hospital.
