Gold's POV:
I walk out of the Pokecenter before calling Cyndiquil out.
"Quil!" The red aura speaks before forming into the shape of my partner.
"I'm sorry buddy, I didn't think he was telling the truth..." I pet him a bit before picking him up and helping him onto my shoulder. "We will get stronger, battle him again, and win, right?"
"Cynda." He nods with determination.
"Okay! Now let's hurry to the professor's lab before anything else happens!" I start running back to New Bark, taking a bit longer to get there due to the ledges. I barged into the lab to see a police officer there.
"Hello there, I'm Officer Jenny. I'm looking for a young male who has long red hair. Have you seen anyone like that?"
"Long red hair...?" Silver! Why you little.... But Totodile seemed so happy with him...
"Long crimson red hair, wearing a black coat."
I can't hurt Totodile, even if he was stolen. "I'm sorry Officer, but I haven't seen anyone like that." I look at her with what I hope is my most sincere face.
"Okay, we will have to hope someone else in town has seen him..." Jenny leaves, and I feel relieved.
"Professor, I have the egg." I take it out of my bag and carefully hold it out to him.
"Oh wow! This is amazing!" He takes the egg and places it on the cushion that used to have Cyndiquil's pokeball on it. "I wonder if all pokemon come from eggs... Thank you for bringing it to me."
"No problem! I should go now, I heard someone mention the Gym challenge, and it sounds like fun." I start to leave, only to be stopped by one of Elm's lab assistants.
"If you are doing the Gym challenge, you should catch some other pokemon. Have these." He hands me a few pokeballs before walking away.
"Thank you!" I smile and head out.
Silver's POV:
"Are you sure you don't want to go back to the pokecenter? I don't have any berries, so going there is the best way to help you."
My partner, weak from battling all the Bellsprout we ran into, shakes his head. "Dile! To to, to dille."
"I know it's risky with the police out, but you are hurt pretty badly and I-"
"DILE!" He shakes his head again, and I'm fairly sure I'm seeing things, because his golden eyes seem to glow for a moment.
"Okay... But if it gets bad, I'm getting you out of here..." I look at the escape rope on my shoulder and sigh, just before I pick Totodile up and stand. Putting the water type on my head, I climb the final ladder.
Gold's POV:
"Alright Cyndaquil! This is too easy." The sprout sage in front of us smiles, despite the fact he just lost.
"Congratulations young trainer, you may pass to the next floor." He points us in the direction of the last ladder.
"Cyn!" My partner runs up and nuzzles my leg, so I pick him up and let him sit on my shoulder. I start to climb up the ladder when I hear Silver's voice and freeze.
"What the hell do you mean I don't know about love!?" There is venom in his words and it scares me.
"Cyndi, remind me to never make Silver angry..." I move up the ladder to see what's going on.
"What trainer in their right mind would have their pokemon fight in such a condition!? You might have won the battle, but you don't deserve this HM." The old sage seems furious. "You used your pokemon like a tool, even though he has feelings of his own! He's a living breathing creature!"
"And he didn't want to go to the Pokecnter, despite the many times I asked him to let me take him!" His partner rests in his arms, in pain, but still clearly angry, his glare pointed at the sage.
"Why should I believe you? For all I know, you could have stolen the poor thing!" Silver flinches at the comment. "Ah ha! So you did steal the Totodile! You are lucky I don't call Jenny up here, or else you won't be continuing your gym challenge! Learn to treat your pokemon better!"
A slight growl comes from Totodile, just before he jumps out of Silver's arms and runs to the sage, jaws open wide. I rush up the ladder to try and serve as a distraction for Totodile. "Hello! I'm ready for a battle!"
The water type freezes, then runs back to Silver. I walked to him and gave him a knowing look. "How much did you hear...?" He speaks to me in a whisper, hiding what he's saying from the sage.
"Long enough to know the truth..." I spot the rope on his shoulder. "I suggest you get to a Pokecenter, Jenny isn't there anymore." He shoots me a glare, one that's an odd mix of confusion, relief, anger... And maybe a pinch of disappointment? Joy? It's hard to tell what it is because he was trying to hide it. Silver picks up his partner, and leaves.
