~.·.·.·.~
your new temporary sleeping quarters is now on the couch in captain levi's office. while it isn't the comfiest, it's better than the option of sleeping on the floor in his attached bedroom. since levi is consciously a toddler, that means keeping an eye on him twenty-four seven.
it also includes some nightmares.
you jolt awake at the sound of a scream, your (e/c) eyes wide, looking around the office. crying follows after the screaming and you rush into the joined room to find your captain sitting up in his bed. the candle you had (dangerously) left on had burnt out awhile ago. the daylight streaming into the room allows you to see his tear-stained cheeks and rosy nose. what time even is it? you think to yourself as you make your way over to him, not exactly knowing what to do. while it's still strange seeing your normally stoic captain display so much emotion, you still feel a pang in your chest at seeing him looking so distressed.
"what's wrong, levi?" you ask him, your voice soft. he sniffles.
"scawy dweam," he replies. you feel awkward. do you hug him? do you sing to him? what are you supposed to do? obviously, he needs some kind of comfort, so you just opt for a hug instead.
"there, there," you awkwardly pat his back, feeling him return the hug and grip your shirt tightly. you aren't sure how long you were hugging him. it's as if a switch just flipped within you. your hand gently caresses his soft, dark hair as you rock him gently back and forth in your arms. you hear his breathing slow and his sniffles come to a halt. okay... this is a bit weird, but at least he's calm now—
"hey, (name)." a voice greets you.
aaaand, he's crying again. louder this time. you flinch at the loudness, looking over at the new addition to the room, which happens to be jean. he is dressed in uniform and ready for the day. you give him a nod of acknowledgment in response, repeating your previous actions in hopes of levi calming down, but it doesn't work this time around. you furrow your eyebrows in confusion.
day three of levi mentally being a toddler: you and jean wracking your brains as to why levi won't shUT THE FUCK UP. "ugh, what happened?" jean asks, wincing as levi's cries grow louder.
you sigh heavily, "he had a nightmare. i comforted him for a while which seemed to calm him down, but," you glance at him, then back to the tall male, frowning, "i'm not so sure now. wait, why are you standing so far away? come closer."
"uh... i'm good. anyway, ya think he's hungry?" jean suggests, scratching his head and earning a shrug from you.
"could be? what time is it?" you ask.
"nearly time for breakfast to start. should we head down?"
you shake your head in response, "i don't want to disturb anyone with... that... i'll head down and grab something. mind staying here? it shouldn't take too long." you're kind of shouting now since levi's sobs are getting louder. for someone who's usually so quiet, he sure has some damn pipes!
jean seems hesitant but agrees nonetheless. he smiles weakly as you thank him, exiting the room and heading to your own to quickly change. nooo, don't leave me! jean watches painfully as you disappear through the office door.
he slowly turns his attention onto the sobbing mess, face mirroring cringe as he bites the inside of his cheek. he thinks of ways on how to get levi to calm down in your absence. jean's head frantically goes from left to right, looking for absolutely anything.
"um, um," he mumbles, now searching the room. "i should've told them to get bring tea before they left, dammit." jean continued to mumble to himself, sorting through levi's closet and drawers. it feels wrong, but right now, his ears are about to start bleeding.
