~Laurel's POV~ (Like ten minutes before Leo got grabbed... Which part? :P)
Well, this hole was unextrodinary in every way. 1: It was made of dirt AMAZING!! 2: It was dark YAY SO STRANGE!! 3: It is deep. That was the weird part, it went down really really far, until we came down to this really weird cave thingy. A heavy fog wafted over the ground, my body had tensed and was ready to run at any sign that Fancy-Pants might be lying and leading me into some trap. I still have my strangely smoking knife in hand. I was faintly surprised to find a guy in super fancy clothes, wearing sunglasses and leaning against the cave wall like he was hottest thing in the world, but nope, sorry, if anything, he looks as cold as a meat locker. His thick black hair was greased back, and he smelled like some expencive but crappy deoderant. I'll call him Tux
"Bryce?"
Tux asked. Bryce? What type of name is that?
(Laurels words, not mine. Ok?)
"She's looking for the mortals that fell down here."
Fancy-pants said. Tux's eyes shone darkly behind his sunglasses.
"Got it. I'll bring her down there.... Miss, if you would step into the boat."
I grudgingly nodded and awkwardly stepped into the boat. I noticed that the two were talking quietly, their words just below my hearing range. I could hear Fancy-pants breathing out an: end.
"Ok, lets get going."
Tux said, stepping into the boat with ease it was embarrassing how easily he got in. He nudged the boat away from the shore, and I turned, looking back and seeing Fancy-pants waving slowly. I frowned, something's wrong. Something is very wrong.
I dunno how long its been, I've been staring at the water from the side of the boat, the oil-like liquid churing on the side of the boat.
"Dont touch the water, unless you want your skin to fall off."
Tux said in a low voice, I looked over at him, now seeing that he was wearing a black robe, his face a skull, with two small bodies of fire buring in his eyesockets. It was horrafying, but it didnt matter. My mind is too cluttered with thoughts to care whether or not the person who's pushing the boat looks like a 'day of the dead' dummy. As they streamed their way through the water, Laurel kept her eyes on the water, once and a while she'd see a weird small white face, though she was certian it was just her imagination. Then the question popped up in her mind
Where am I?
She looked around. It was so dark. Tux parked us at the side of the river, there, I saw them, my family, all passed out on the ground, I tried to step out of the boat but Tux grabbed my arm with his long thin skellital fingers.
"If you leave this boat to get them, you cant come back on."
He said. I looked at him and yanked my arm away, I jumped out of the boat and sprinted to my family, one by one, I hauled their passed out bodies into the boat, thinking about the cost.
I left the boat. Why?
To save them.
Its costing your life, saving them is costing your LIFE Laurel!
Its worth it. My life for theirs. The sacrafice of one life to save more, its worth it.
Laurel! Open your eyes you idiot! You think this is some game? If you die, who's going to look after Leo? Or Thalia?
They wont be alive if I save myself.
Yeah, why cant you find a way to go on the boat with them?
I finaly lugged Leo onto the boat, the last person, tears in my eyes, my eyes met with Tux and he frowned
"Your life for theirs. A fair trade considering your lineage."
He said. I nodded, oblivious to his words, and he looked at them, Leo was just starting to stir. Along with the rest of them, groaning and trying to sit up. I bent over and kissed Leo's forehead. His eyes opened, and he mumbled out a
"Leaf?"
Tears streamed down my face, cilently I held back ugly sobs. Tux pushed the boat away from the shore, and Leo jumped up
"Wait! You forgot Laurel! She's not on the boat! Your leaving her!"
He yelled reaching out of the boat, his hand extending my in my direction. I forced a smile. This is for the better, my life for theirs. A sacrafice worth taking.
"Live for me!"
I yelled. Surprised by my own voice. Did I just... talk? WHAT THE HELL!? I ran on the shore of the river, trying to keep up for as long as I could
"Laurel!!"
Leo screamed, his tears dropping into the river, mixing with the black water.
"Live for me!"
I repeated, the tears streaming down my face as my lungs begged for air. Note: Dont run while crying. I stopped, the warmth of the liquid turned cold as a soft breeze bushed my skin.
"Laurel! Dont leave me!"
I heard Leo plead, his body fadding in the black smoke that hung in the air like fog.
"Live for me Leo!"
I called to him, a smile on my face, he has to live for both of us. I heard the yells of the others, their words incoherent to my ears. But Leo's last words I heard echoed in my ears
"I love you!"
I choked on my tongue,
"I love you too."
I yelled, but the sound probably didnt reach his ears. I dropped to my knees on the side of the river, pain pulsing through my body. Not adrenaline. Not pleasure. Not warmth. Not cold. Pain. The feeling of longing and emptyness filled me again. Leaving me a shell. I saw white faces in the water, eating up the tears that fell from my eyes. Words cooed to me.
"Left."
"Forgoten."
"Gone."
"Dying."
Slowly, my world started to get darker, and darker... One thought came to mind when I felt myself float as if flying, I felt free, I felt warm... but I still felt like a shell. I'm dead. Arent I?
Were they really worth dying for?
Definately.
-----A/N------------------------
I'll make this quick:
I'm sorry.
Please dont kill me.
