Solar panels, that's why the fridge and the lights still work. Jordan and I found the panels on the roof today. We decided to do a more thorough run of the house. In our check we found the attic, which is where we also found the hatch that leads onto the flat roof and the many solar panels up there. It's also where we found that we would have to leave a few days ahead of schedule.
I was up before Jordan that morning. I decided to make him some breakfast, he seems less grumpy about waking up when there's food involved.
After scrambling some eggs, getting some bacon and buttering the toast, I brought the tray up to our room and set it beside him on the end table.
"Jordan," I whispered, "Jordan, food."
Upon hearing the word 'food' he pulled the comforter from over his head and cracked open a sleepy eye.
"Mmpf." He said through the whole piece of toast he shoved into his mouth.
"What?"
"Thanks." He repeated after choking down his bite.
"Ya, no problem." I said. "I think, since we'll be here a few more days, we should really go through the house a bit better. Maybe find some more clean clothes, food. More batteries for the walkie talkies would be nice too."
"Do we really have to leave?" He asked, eyes misting over. "What if Bre comes back? How will she find us?"
"Jordan, even if she does get out and just happens to come looking, how will she find us here? This house is on a hidden road, set back into a copse of trees. You can't see it from the main part of town which is where the three of us were before, she won't find us here."
He sighed in defeat and pulled himself out of bed. "Alright, let me just get dressed and we'll check the place out some more."
I quickly left the room so he could ready himself. After just a short wait he came out. My mouth dropped at his chosen outfit.
"Are you really wearing that?" I asked, trying to keep a straight face.
"Oh ya, I'm keeping this."
I took a step back to better take in his appearance. Penny loafers, red silk pajama bottoms, a thick red smoking jacket and a tobacco pipe. He was really wearing that.
"Do you even smoke?" I asked.
"No but I've always wanted one of these jackets." He glanced down at himself. "Besides we're in a mansion, why not dress the part?"
"You're an idiot. Come on your majesty, let's go look around."
I heard him snickering behind me as he followed me up the hall.
"Keep laughing," I chided, "let's see you run in those loafers when you need to." Just as I said that I heard a thud behind me. I turned to find Jordan, stomach down, on the floor.
"Ya, maybe I'll stick with the sneakers." He said after picking himself off the floor. "I'm keeping the jacket though."
We went room to room, not bothering with the first floor. Most of our time was spent there so we knew there wasn't anything of interest.
We each grabbed a single change of clothes, we couldn't bring more than necessary. Once we started walking we needed all the room we had for food and weapons.
Along with the spare clothes we ended up with an unopened pack of AA batteries, packed some food into the duffle bags and Jordan even found a small pistol in a desk drawer in the study, along with a nice amount of ammo stashed next to it.
