Then came the Storm

Besides the oases and the glass in the Glass Desert, its most prominent feature was the firestorms that erupted occasionally. And in the words of someone long gone, "You'll know when you see it, and when you do, head for cover or risk burning your tuchus".

Luckily for us, when the firestorm started, we were still high above the ground on top of the obelisk. But that didn't stop the intense heat from reaching us from below. Fire Slimes were leaping out of the flames, being released from the middle of the planet which we stood upon. I leaned over the edge a bit more to get a closer look.

Suddenly, Kreon shrieked in my mind. "LOOK OUT!" She forcibly made us stumble backwards as an abnormally tall jet of flame shot from the ground. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep our balance, and we fell backwards off the tower.

I used to be afraid of falling. Not heights, just the action of something dropping. Tripping on the sidewalk, pebbles dropped into canyons, grades dropping- I was terrified of all of those. (Except for the last one.) However, once I got wings in other worlds, my fear of falling dissipated. I could simply spread my wings and fly back up.

However, this time when we fell, I felt a terrible sense of dread overcome me. Like usual, I tried to spread our wings to slow our descent, but then, something hot and dense hit me in the head.

I was knocked out immediately, and Kreon described to me later that we plummeted like a rock. Or rather, a meteor.

When I woke up, we were most definitely not in Slime Rancher.

How did I know this? Well, first of all, we were in the middle of a forest. The only forest on the Far, Far Range is the Moss Blanket, and that's more of a jungle.

Second of all, the atmosphere and air was different, which meant that we were in a world more similar to Earth.

And third of all, I was being nudged by a Shinx.

I leapt to my feet and stumbled backwards, the Shinx tilting its head at me and giving me a curious trill. Okay, we were in Pokemon. How did we get here? I didn't remember anything. Somehow, my parka was back on, hiding our wings.

"Kreon?" I asked.

"Yes?" came the reply. I sighed in relief.

"What happened?" I asked. "All I remember is falling off of the obelisk during the firestorm."

"You were hit in the head by a meteor and knocked unconscious," she informed me. "I couldn't gain control because you were still in control even though you were unconscious, and I couldn't forcibly take over."

"Oh. How did we get in Pokemon?"

"I don't know. I don't even remember opening a door, I just remember when we hit the ground, we landed on grass instead of sand, or fire, or glass, or a slime."

I picked myself up off the ground, much to the Shinx's delight, who started running circles around us. "What time is it?" I asked.

"I don't know," she replied. "But we should get back now."

I examined my surroundings. I was in the middle of a large forest, surrounded by trees with thick trunks. I saw Starly flitting from the trees, and Budew waddling from patch to patch of sunlight. Sinnoh region, probably. My favourite.

I walked over to the thickest tree I could find, Shinx trailing behind me. I ran my hand along the bark, looking for a door. Nothing.

I checked a few more trees before giving up and letting Kreon take over. Immediately she disturbed a sleeping Wurmple and got a facefull of string to show for it.

"So now what?" I asked her.

"I don't know. Usually the doors are everywhere. The last time I couldn't find a door was from before we 'met'."

"What did you do then?"

"I found a place of great importance in the plot and managed to find a door there. The strange thing was that when I came back to the world, things were back to normal, and I could find a door anywhere. I think it's just a fluke in the universe."

"So we just go to an important place in the plot and open a door there?"

"Yup. What's the most sacred place lore-wise in the Sinnoh region?

"The three lake spirit's caves, the statue in Eterna City, the Solaceon Ruins, the Celestic Ruins, and Spear Pillar. I suggest we go to Spear Pillar first, as it's the most important place in the game. After all, that's where you can literally reach God."

"Alright. Where is Spear Pillar?"

"Top of Mount Coronet."

"Alright. Let's go."

Shrugging off my jacket for the second time that day (night?), I spread my wings once more. The Shinx yelped in surprise and stumbled away, yipping something that I could barely understand. I leapt into the air again, but unlike the Moss Blanket, the forest we were in had a nice gust of wind blowing through it. I flapped my wings a bit more to gain height, then we started gliding towards the sunrise, in the East. (Look at me, knowing my directions for once. This will not be a recurring event.)

"So how do we get to Mount Coronet?"

"Well, first we gotta figure out where we are," I explained. "I would have guessed the Eterna Forest, but the forest wasn't dense enough, and there was a Shinx, and Eterna City is nowhere to be seen. So since we were surrounded by trees, I'd guess one of the routes near the starting towns, and since there was a Shinx, I'd assume we're past Sandgem town." I scanned the land below us, gaze landing upon a small town by a beach in the distance. Aha!

"So here's the plan. We land outside Sandgem town so nobody sees us, hide our wings, and then go to a Pokemart and see if they have a map. Preferably one that shows our location, a normal map would be pretty hard for me to use, unless you want to take over."

"Nah, I'm good."

We landed in the trees, I slipped on my parka, and we walked into town.
