Dear Diary,

Today was a long, tiring day.  Late this evening, my thirsty crew and I were exploring an island in the middle of the great Pacific Ocean, trying to find some fresh water, when I heard giggling up ahead.  As I drew near to a bush, a periwing popped out.  His wings weren’t in the best of shape, indicating that his antics had gotten him into trouble in the past.  He crooked a finger at a member of my crew, Riggs, and beckoned him over.  I told him not to listen to the periwing but he didn’t hear me.  The periwing zoomed out of the bush to greet Riggs and started whispering to him, no doubt trying to convince him to do something stupid.  Riggs turned back to me and told me that there is a large body of fresh water up ahead and hidden underneath a rock at the bottom was a chest of gold that other sailors had left there earlier that year.  I tried to convince him and the rest of the crew that periwings only cause trouble but none of them would listen to me, so we headed east toward the possible body of fresh water.  Sure enough, there it was.  It was dark by the time we got there so I persuaded the crew to set up camp for the night and look for the gold in the morning.

I will write again tomorrow to tell whether we found the gold or not.
