Dear Diary,

I sent Skale down to find out what was following us today.  We secured him to a rope and told him that if anything was wrong, to yank on the rope two times.  I could tell that he was nervous, but at that moment, Nylene and I agreed that he was the one who could do the job the best, being a skinny and light man.  The strongest of my crew lowered him down into the water and prepared to pull him out, lest something happen.  We waited there for about a minute, holding our breaths and hoping that everything would be okay.  Then, fast as lightning, the large, dark mass charged!  We raced to pull Skale out of the water then we ran to our stations on The Aurora, ready to fight.  The creature wrapped its tentacles around the ship and started to attack.  We fought back with guns, cannons, and knives, trying anything to get away from the beast and survive.  Eventually, it let go, too injured and bloody to go on fighting and we sailed as fast as we could away from it.  Hopefully, we never see it again.
