"Hey! Come in Nat, it's getting late!"
"In a minute!"
I yelled to Rey, as I turned back to the calm sea. Sitting lazily on my surfboard, I could really stay here till dawn.
"Come on!"
"Alright alright."
I muttered to myself, before laying on my stomach and swam back to shore. As my feet patted onto the sand, I looked back at the beautiful sunset that painted the sky, before placing my board next to the others. And walked inside our beach house. Closing the door, Rey crossed her arms and said.
"You have to stop scaring me like that-"
Pinning Rey to the wall with my hand, I could tell she was mad by the way her eyebrows were pointed. But she was just so cute.
"This isn't a game Nat, who knows what creeps are lurking around at night?"
"Rey, you moved us out here to get away from the city remember? Avoiding any potential dangers that could hurt either of us..."
I said trailing off to lift her shirt gently, running my fingers across her stomach scars. They were faded, but her mental state hasn't very well improved since her mugging incident. She thinks I don't care, but she never knew how scared I was when the only thing giving me safety was her heart monitor-
"Nat?"
Lifting my gaze, I realized my smile had faded along with whatever quip I had to make her feel better. Now with my head blank, I just leaned over and placed a small kiss on her forehead.
"Hey what is it? Talk to me."
Rey said gently taking my arm before I could runoff. I on the other hand am working to be more vulnerable. Being the only girl in my family, surrounded by multiple boys constantly, really paved emotions as weaknesses.
"I um..."
I started as Rey pulled me over to her embrace.
"I just want to make sure that I'm helping you. I want you to feel calm and safe-"
"What do you want?"
Slowly lifting my chin to her own with that question, I didn't know what she meant.
"Seriously, what do you want?-"
"What sort of question is that? I want your peace of mind. I want to surf you into the sunset just so you can feel a little warmer."
Finally, her eyes widened for a moment, as I took her hands into my own.
"I want you. You're my happiness, Rey."
After a small pause, a smile grew on Rey's face as she said.
"Really? You just seem so distant sometimes."
"That's on me, I just don't like to be vulnerable..."
I said scratching my head of hair, I need to probably cut it.
"Well, maybe this is a start."
I wonder what she means by that-
"Wow, I didn't think you blushed."
Rey said pulling her lips away from mine.
"Y-You wha..."
Came bumbling out of my mouth as Rey slipped our first official kiss in just like that. She laughed at me for a moment, and I cherished her smile. Clearing my throat, I took her chin with my hands and said.
"Come here."
As our lips collided, I kissed her back a little longer before pulling away. We both giggled, as I touched my forehead to hers saying.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Rey replied as I moved to the bedroom to change, and Rey headed to the kitchen. Pulling off my swimsuit, and stripping down any undergarments, I headed into the shower. Rey and I are deciding to take it slow or I guess more accurately I'm doing it for her. I want her to be comfortable. Waiting can be hard, yes, but the thought of a wedding day just makes me feel all giddy inside.
"Babe, foods ready!"
"Okay!"
Slipping on a penguin onesie, I walked out to sit at the dinner table. And not too long after Rey placed a plate of chicken and shrimp in front of me, mixed with fried rice. It smelled so good, but I waited till Rey sat next to me with her own plate to dig in.
"I'm curious..."
Rey started, as I lifted my gaze while chewing a chunk of shrimp.
"Why do you like the water so much?"
"I don't know, I've always sort of gravitated to it."
"Does it calm you?"
Dipping my head, she slid over some ginger ale as I drank a sip before continuing.
"In a way, it's just the beauty of it I think. How it can be calm yet powerful, vicious but yet forth giving."
"You should be a poet."
"Don't patronize me-"
"I mean it."
Taking a few bites of my food, Rey suddenly scurried off, and my mouth was too full to object as she gently placed down my typewriter.
"You haven't typed a single word since we got here."
I tried to pull my hood over my head, but she just pulled my hands away.
"Just think about it okay?"
Getting the puppy dog eyes on me, I sighed and said.
"Fine."
"Yay!"
Rey hugged me, as I rolled my eyes. After we finished our food, we cuddled on the couch, with her head on my chest. Watching one of her favorite movies, my attention slowly drift to Rey. I was starting to stare. She was always beautiful, but seeing her at peace just made it cement somehow.
"Babe?"
"Hmm?"
I said quickly turning my head back to the movie.
"Were you staring?"
"No, I just thought I saw something on your face. I was wrong."
Lord, I'm a terrible liar.
"You know we don't have to wait-"
"Don't shrink your needs just because I, well..."
Locking eyes with Rey was a mistake but I pushed through.
"Look, it's natural for us to want to be more physical. But I don't want you rushing yourself just because of me okay?"
"Okay."
Rey said as she nodded at me, and I nodded back. We stayed there for a while, as my eyes fluttered closed. Before I knew it, I was dreaming.
