I shifted up in the limo I was in, I know I took a nap, but I didn't think it was so long that it's night time. King noticed and said.
"Ah, how did you sleep?"
"Good, a little too good actually, where are we?"
"Drago is our next client, you'll meet him on the Miami beach. He's older than Sheldon but not as much as me."
Nodding, I looked down to see I was in a sleep shirt. Lifting it there was a pink bikini staring back at me as I chuckled and said.
"This was Kat's idea wasn't it?"
"Yep."
King replied with a smile, but it quickly faded into something else.
"What?"
I said as King grew the smile back, but I knew it was fake as he continued.
"Nothing, just keep your eyes peeled. He's unpredictable and been a pain in the ass for the underground puta even before we got off the ground."
"Roger that, anything else I should know?"
"He actually digs fighters, so resisting some stuff isn't necessarily bad in this case. Just..."
As we locked eyes while he trailed off, he finally concluded.
"Be careful."
"I will."
I nodded assuredly to him, as the limo skidded to a stop. I pulled off my sleep shirt then stepped out of the limo. I have yet to see King concerned or even a hint of fear, but I saw it today. I've never been prideful unless I think I can win. In this case, having a shred of that could very well kill me.
"Here we go."
I said gently slapping my cheeks with my hands, can't back out now. Walking onto the sand I made sure to give people their personal space before reaching the water. Spotting a beach house being the center of attention, Rey flashed through my mind, and it felt like my heart was stabbed with a blade. As I walked till the water was above my chest, the thought crossed my mind. Maybe after all this, I'll do Rey a favor and kill myself.
"Rey would fight the notion, but it seems a fitting end..."
Whispering that, I submerged under the water for a few moments. Letting my thoughts fall still. Then I felt it.
Thumb Thumb
That resilience to live, to fight, despite anything that happens now or before. It was kind of annoying, but I guess it's just part of me. Resurfacing with a deep breath, I walked back onto the sand to see something like a butler waiting for me.
"Are you Natasha?"
"Yes."
"Drago has been expecting you."
Dipping my head, the butler outstretched his hand as I walked toward the beach house. To my surprise, Drago was actually at the door, never really going inside, and just embraced the porch.
"Natasha, it so good to finally meet you. I'm Drago."
Drago stood up and I shook his hand, as we shared a smile. Suddenly he pulled me to his chest, which snapped my attention.
"Hmm, strong gaze, firm curves. You're a novice aren't you?"
"I am."
I said as he gently rubbed his thumb across my chin. Continuing to look me up and down.
"Sheldon must have been your chaperone, there's a flare in you."
Locking eyes with Drago, he was a mix between King and Sheldon in a way. From the way, he pulled me, there something deeper I don't know about. But it won't be long before I find out.
"My apologies, would you like to join the party?"
As he gently let me go, and I stared into the house.
"Mm, I'd actually not."
"Oh? Then Max go get us a couple of drinks."
Max is the butler's name, as I sat down in the chair Drago pulled out for me. I crossed my legs and got comfortable, as he whispered to Max before turning back to me.
"Who are you, Natasha? Tell me about yourself."
I opened my mouth to say something, but the question threw me off so much I just chuckled.
"Don't feel rushed, start wherever you want."
Drago said as Max returned with a champagne bottle.
"Well, if I were to start anywhere it'd have to be the water. I love to surf."
I replied, and Max poured champagne into crystal glasses. Drago leaning in slightly as he took an interest.
"When I was a baby my parents told me I couldn't stop running to the waves..."
Trailing off, my smile faded as I sighed.
"They died recently, but I was glad for the time I had with them."
"I see, I'm sorry for your loss."
Drago said gently patting my shoulder with his hand. Pushing my glass over to me, I sipped about half the glass down before pushing it to the side. After a few seconds of silence, he said.
"Did you have anyone?"
"A girlfriend, she was my soulmate."
"Was?"
I decided to finish the glass and leaned in myself.
"Yeah, I mean consider the circumstances. I'm either succeeding in the business and peak. Or dying.
Drago laughed then as Max refilled my glass. I started to reach for it, but Drago gently took my hand and pushed it down.
"So freedom has never crossed your mind?"
"No, it's practically impossible-"
"Have you ever wondered why I've been such a wrench in the underground puta's side?"
My curiosity was peaked, so I shook my head no. Drago knew he had me then as he reached over whispered in my ear.
"I've been helping them escape."
Thoughts scattering every which way, my eyes widened as Drago pushed my champagne glass back to me. And I took a big sip this time.
"And you could be next."
"All the fighters from before..."
"Precisely, I knew you were bright the moment I laid eyes on you..."
We locked eyes again, as he concluded.
"I am the mafia king so whatever you want, including freedom, I can grant you."
Taking a moment to process all of it, I retorted.
"What's in it for you?"
"Call it a hunch. I want to flush this underground out of business. It's starting to become a hassle."
Nodding, I couldn't believe I was saying this but I said.
"Okay."
