CHAPTER ONE

[ chocolate hair ]

❑❜

TODAY WAS THE first day of your second year in Aoba Johsai and you weren't really that excited to go back. It just felt like any other day with the same old routine except you had to go to school now, answer assignments and homeworks, listen to a grown adult (who isn't even that passionate about their job) drone on about how the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

High school was dull, and repetitive, same thing every year but that doesn't really bother you as long as you graduate with flying colors.

Having zero friends added to your lonesome mindset and it gave you all the more reason to not look forward to going to school. But, making friends was something you didn't really want to do.

To you, making friends was a chore and it wasn't really necessary. Friends brought drama, problems, ideals and trends you didn't want to follow.

Being alone doesn't always mean you're lonely. And you weren't. You were just friendless and that's okay.

The sound of a tap resonated from in front of you resulting to you looking up to find the source.

Your mom was staring at you, disapprovingly while shaking her head, "Sweetie, if you keep zoning out like that, you'll end up late for your first day."

A sigh came out of your mouth, making your mom roll her eyes playfully.

"You can at least pretend to feel a little bit excited for your first day." she wrapped your bento box in a neat pink fabric before tying a ribbon on top.

You faked a smile that looked more like a grimace to which your mom laughed at.

"By the way, mom, I'm signing up as a library assistant just like last year." you tell her, stiring the cup of coffee in your hand.

"Okay, are you gonna be able to eat your lunch?" she asked. She didn't like it when you don't eat proper meals so you decided to lie.

"Yeah." you pursed you lips.

Food and drinks weren't allowed in the school library so there's no way you would eat lunch. You were used to it already, not eating lunch. You usually ate during your free period in the afternoon.

"Good," she nodded, "Here." she spoke, handing you your bento full of food she had prepared.

───

Your morning classes went by boringly. The same people in your class as your first year, some moved up, some moved down.

Some of your girl classmates were annoying and acted like they owned the classroom. But you couldn't really care less as long as they left you alone.

The hallways were crowded with students and teachers as you excitedly made your way to the library.

You felt so happy to see the library again after months of summer. That was the only thing you looked forward to. Shelves of books and paper were eye candy to you.
