I sat in the corner of the room, watching the winter soldier get beat by the recruits. I was focusing on taking away his pain when the last recruit got up and stalked towards me. Winter didn't see it and I couldn't move. The man lifted me up from the ground by my throat and I was gasping for air. No matter what I did I couldn't scream, not even a squeal came out. I was thrashing around when I felt him shake me.

"NO!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, tears streaming down my face. "Shh it's okay, it's me, you're okay." I realized it was Winter who was holding me and I relaxed. "I just want to go home." I whimpered. He said nothing, and gently started rubbing circles on the purple-bruised skin of my neck while I buried my head in his neck. For a moment I felt safe. Just for a moment.

I didn't know how I'd come to trust him so fast, but he was all I had. He was the only one who hadn't tried to hurt me, and although he terrified me at the beginning I never felt threatened by him.

"Asset. Stop trying to get laid and get up.   You two have a mission." A guard came up to us. "Okay first of all, rude. Second of all, since when do I come with?" I gave him an attitude and he grumbled, looking ready to punch me in the face. I decided it was time for me to shut up and got up along with the soldier.
We sat down in a van, accompanied by 3 other men, who were all carrying guns. They started briefing the soldier about the mission and I was too distracted by the guns and the familiarity of them to listen.  When they were done the soldier sat back down. "I'm sorry I wasn't listening, what am I supposed to do?" I whispered. "Just stay in the van and don't get killed." He answered. I looked at him, and noticed the soft expression he had worn earlier had completely faded. His face was blank, and for some reason it scared me.
