TRIGGER WARNING: homophobia that i am so sorry about
After a few months of texting, calling, and going on dates, Zac and Aidan began going steady. Zac was happy in his new relationship and wanted to tell his dad that it wasn't just a friendship. Aidan warned against it, but Zac brushed it away. He wasn't going to be ashamed of who he was any longer.
Zac tip-toed into the hallway and saw his Dad eating in his chair.
"Dad...can we talk for a minute?", He asked, slumping over onto the couch.
"Why not?", He sighed and smiled. "We haven't been that close since your Mom died, so we should try to start connecting."
Zac's eyes glimmered. He would love that.
"Um, so, I don't know if you are going to get really mad or not. I mean, I hope not...Can you promise that you won't get mad?", Zac looked up at his Dad, still crunching on bacon. (ah frick my misophonia could never.)"What? Are you having a kid?", His dad, furrowed his bushy eyebrows.
"Haha, it's actually..um...quite the opposite...", Zac twiddled his thumbs.
"Well, tell me, Zac!", He chewed. (Oh g o d I just-...I can't.)
"You know Aidan, right?", Zac blushed.
"Yeah, the young fellow you have been hanging out with a lot.", He studied his face.
"We are a little bit more than just friends..", He sighed.
His dad's expression instantly changed. Zac couldn't tell if it was anger, disgust, disappointing, or something else but he knew it wasn't good.
"You are NEVER seeing him ever again-..you...you disgusting little f*****.", He glared at Zac.
"You are going to stop being gay. You are going to date a girl and you are going to be a normal man. I refuse to raise a gay son.", He stood up and walked out of the house.
Zac sat on the couch, motionless. He wasn't crying. He wasn't angry. He wasn't moving. He wasn't feeling anything. He didn't WANT to be gay. If he had a choice, why the h3ll would he choose to succumb himself to hate? "Just-..suppress it..", He whispered to himself. He started trembling and the sobs began to come.
Eventually, his dad came home late into the night, a young girl with him.
"Zac-..this is Ariana. Your new girlfriend.", He sneered at him. Zac looked from his dad to Ari. She was smiling and happy-...
"Okay...", Zac forced himself to give a small smile to Ari.
His dad grinned and patted him on the back, "I'm proud of you, son. You are working towards normalacy! Now, you two go talk, you love birds."
Zac smiled at Ari, and tried to make it look genuine. He led her to his room and they sat on his bed.
"Hey, I'm Ari.", She tucked her hair behind her ear.
"I'm Zac.", He sighed.
"What was your dad talking about? Becoming normal?", She smiled at him.
"Um-..", He looked at her. She was actually very pretty, nice, and he could force himself to like her...and he couldn't hurt her.
"He-..he thought I should have my first girlfriend already..I'm already almost 18 and haven't had one yet, so yeah.", He smiled.
"Oh. Well now you have me!", She hugged him. He put his arm around her shoulder and tried not to cry...
