Through the Abyss Chapter 6

Flaire was the first one to wake up. She looked around the gray stone jail cell she was in and sighed deeply. The last thing she remembered was the fight between the guards with Alec by her side. Then she was struck on the back of the head by something blunt and blacked out. She couldn’t remember if Alec was hit also. All of the sudden she heard snoring. She looked over and saw Alec lying on his back with a bad bruise across his body like he’d been dragged here. Flaire was fine except for the pounding headache. 

“Hey, Alec.” flair said poking his side “wake up we’re stuck in here.” Flaire knew she could easily melt the bars but the previous times she used her power she almost exhausted herself to death. She wasn’t about to let Alec know that though.

“mmmm 5 more minutes.” Alec mumbled, “I don’t wanna go to school today.”

“Ok then,” Flair said with a slight smile “We’re gonna have to do this the hard way.” She then started shaking alec violently and soon enough he woke up and screamed.

“What the fuck are you shaking me fo-” An excruciating pain then shot through Alec’s body. It felt like someone ripping a knife through his side. He held his side and looked around.

“Where are we?” Alec asked. The last thing he remembered was the fight also.  He checked his sheath only to find it empty.

“what did you expect?” Flair said sarcastically, “That they’d leave the people who killed two guards with the weapons they used to kill them?” Alec wanted to argue but he knew it would be pointless. Just then a voice boomed from the hall

“Looks like the prisoners are up.” It was a large threatening voice that seemed to reverberate throughout the room. The man walked into view and Flair had a look of shock on her face.

“You-you’re the one who brought us to this building.” Flaire said shaking. She knew it right when she saw him that unforgettable smirk plastered on his face, his short black hair in a tangled mess. He was definitely the one who knocked them out. She ran to grab the bars so she could yell at him for taking them for  no reason but she was cut short when she got to the bars . A sharp shock was sent through her nerves and sent her falling to the floor. Alec ran to help her out but she was out cold.

“You bastard!” Alec said looking at the man with rage “What did you do?”

“we can’t have people like you roaming about killing guards all willy-nilly like you were” he smirked “besides what’s one person to die at the hand of the soon to be High Ruler?”

“Death?” Alec thought to himself. “You bastard!” he shouted at the man.

“you’ve used that word a lot today boy.”

That’s when it hit him. The info desk, the informant, the merchant. It was all a hoax. But why sell them weapons? A lot of things didn’t make sense but he knew enough to know that this man had set them up from the beginning. 

A strange feeling started coursing through his body as all the thoughts danced through his mind. The set up, the fight, the supposed death of Flaire all caused by that one man. He began to focus all his thoughts on ripping that man to shreds, and destroying him. His feet lifted off the ground as he began to levitate off the ground and a crushing pressure filled the room.

“we have activity,” the man said talking to a microphone earplug. “Begin sample collecting.” A little black box popped out of the device and onto the ground absorbing some of the strange force.

“You!” Alec roared at the man “now it’s your turn to die!”

A bright light filled the room and the air around Alec seemed to explode, eliminating all that stood before him. After the blast Alec fell next to Flaire. During his last glimpse of sight he saw her softly breathing. The man who had jailed them was lying on the ground, however, he had the same smile on his face and next to him lied the cube glowing green. Iisa walked into the room.

“Quite an explosion but you served us well” She said to the man. “shame you had to die on us but what’s one death at the expense of the future High Ruler?” With that she picked up the cube and left out the door.
