Gina sighed as she read the text and kicked Ricky's hip. He grunted and looked up at her. They were lying in her bed, heads at opposite ends.

"What was that for?" he whined. She glared at him.

"Nini replied. You're a dick." She shrugged. He rolled his eyes.

"I know, Gi. I've been telling you that I'm a dick for the past, what, four hours?"

"Yeah, well, you were right. You're not even mad anymore. You told me that you want to apologize and make up. Why don't you?" she hissed angrily, careful not to be too loud so as not to wake her parents up. Even though they knew she was gay, and were reasonably okay with it, they probably wouldn't be cool with her sharing a bed with a guy.

"Because I can't, okay? I need to give her time without me. She needs to be sure that she wants me in her life."

"Oh, fuck, you're such an idiot." She groaned. He laughed cynically.

"So I'm a dick and an idiot? You're not holding back with the insults tonight are you, Gina?" he drawled. She kicked him again, making him wince.

"You deserve it."

"I meant what I said, though. If she still wants me back after a little while without me, I'll go back to her."

"Well you could at least tell her that instead of letting her think you're crazy pissed and never going back." She was practically growling, and he cringed.

"I don't want to hurt her..."

"Speak to her then!"

"But what if-"

"Oh shut the fuck up, Richard! If she didn't love you and want you in her life, she wouldn't be so fucking upset about this fight!"

"She might just be used to me, though. I want her to be happy, Gi, and if she's happier without me then I want her to know that."

"Okay, fine. You know what? I'm not going to stop you. I won't force you to talk to her. But I'll tell you one thing; what you're doing is only serving to cause both of you a ridiculous amount of pain inside, and in a week's time Nini's feelings won't be any different than yours." She insisted. He sighed, lying back down and closing his eyes.

"Well, then, if that's the case, no harm done. Right?"

"Ricky, you know that's not the case."

"Why not?"

"Because if Nini finds out that you think she doesn't want you, she'll hate herself ten times as much as she does now."

"She won't."

"You know her, Ricky. You know she will." Gina said softly, anger dissipating due to Ricky's shaky voice. It was obvious that he was crying.

"Well, then, I'll make sure she doesn't find out. I just... I want what's best for her. I want to give her what she needs."

"Ever think that in trying to give her what she needs, you might be taking away the one thing she needs more than anything else?"

"She doesn't need me, Gina."

"The text she just sent me would beg to differ."

Ricky just sighed heavily in response, promptly ending that conversation. Gina clearly wasn't done though. "Hey, Rick?" Gina asked, sitting up.

"Hmm?" He mumbled.

"Does Neens know that you stay here when you're not with her?" She asked hesitantly.

Ricky was silent for a moment before muttering a quiet "no". Gina groaned. "Ricky, do you seriously not talk to your girlfriend?!" He scoffed at this, rolling his eyes.

"It's not like she's ever asked Gi." He said.

Gina blankly stared at Ricky. "So, let me guess... she doesn't know that your parents kicked you out?"

Ricky shrugged. "I don't know what the big deal is. My parents kicked me out and Nini's mom, Dana isn't too keen on me staying with them as it is, and I'm not eighteen so I can't get my own apartment. Staying here or pitching a tent in the park were my only options and I think I'd rather have a bed."

Gina rolled her eyes and shook her head. "You need to talk to her, Ricky. About everything. I mean, if her moms knew about your home situation... maybe they would let you stay with them permanently. You are the father of her baby after all."

Ricky didn't reply after that, and eventually Gina gave up waiting for a response and went to sleep.

But once he was sure she was asleep, Ricky sat up and leant over her to grab her phone.

When he fell asleep that night, all he dreamt of were those six words.

I love him? I miss him? I need him.
