Today's finally the day, the rest of my life starts now. My jam-packed suitcases are getting loaded into a taxi as i say my final goodbyes to my family and friends. As much as i'll miss my mum and dad and of course my best friend since i can remember, Lillian, the opportunity i've been given is outstanding, meaning i need to leave my entire life back in Guernsey and move to London!
Only a few tears leak from my eyes on my way to the airport, but I'm able to pull it together in time as i step out of the taxi, quickly tipping the driver and realizing i'm already late for my flight. On my way to the gate i hear above me 'If Ms. Aurelia Dylans come to gate 7 for flight 63-27 to London'. Mortified, i start jogging, the flight attendant which had announced my name to the entire airport gave me a warm smile, 'Yes hi i'm Elia.. i mean Aurelia dylan's' i manage to stammer out through quick breaths, i'm not much of a runner.
Holding my black carryon suitcase i find the one seat that's left for me. It was an isle seat at least, though the man sitting next to me who seemed to have his eyes glued on his laptop like his life depended on it, seemed familiar to me, but i brushed it off and sat next to him with a small wave. I started texting Lillian telling her i've gotten on my flight safely and my weird feeling of the light haired man sitting to my right. She promptly responds with a novel of heart emojis signifying that she misses me and that she loves me... low Lillian of her, i let out a small giggle. I realize now that my giggle prompted mystery boy to lookup from his macbook and we made eye contact. That's when i realize who he was. I accidentally let out a small gasp. 'Oh i'm sorry i didn't mean to shake you'
'Don't worry... do i know you from somewhere? you seem scarily familiar' replied the boy i had been in love with from grade school to highschool. Harry Lewis. Gurnseys most famous... well only famous person.
I whisper 'Harold' a little too loud and that's when he realized.
'Elia?'
A sudden rush of emotion crashes over me, i hadn't seen harry since grade ten, when i moved schools. He's now a public figure with his friends on youtube. Harry was the first person to use my nickname, Elia, because when we were in early grade school he claimed that everyone deserved nicknames.
'Harry dear god i barley even recognized you, how have you been, it's been too long!'
'Elia! My favorite kindergarten girlfriend how have you been and why the hell are you flying to London?'
Harry and i chatted for what seemed like minutes but it lasted the entire flight, when we both departed into the airport we said our final goodbyes and promised we'd keep in touch... i didn't know in that moment how true that last promise would become.
