A brisk, winter night in Gotham. Pretty bearable if you threw on a winter jacket over whatever you were wearing.

I was sitting at the top of an abandoned factory, gazing down at a winter festival that took place on a blocked out street.

There were about 600 people attending. No one suspicious. No one at all. They were all living in the moment.

Most of them were with their friends, their family, or their significant other.

This is what it's like to be normal.

What struck my eye the most was the families that were there.

I always wondered what it would be like to be able to experience moments like these with a family.

Father definitely tried to have a normal father-son dynamic with me. We went to basketball games- he even brought me to a few movie premieres.

As I grew older, the more we both realized our relationship would never be normal. I guess that was always obvious, given the circumstances, but we were driven by false hope.

And false hope can be a bitch.

That was when I heard footsteps approaching me. Naturally, I turned to see who it was.

You're joking.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing, Kent?"

The words left my mouth before I could even think of what else to say.

Jon Kent, one of my most loyal companions for the past five years. He also ranks high for being one of the most idiotic.

He decided it would be a smart idea to approach me wearing full civilian clothes, while I was head-to-toe in my Robin uniform.

I had noticed he was at the festival with some of his friends from school, but I didn't really care. I didn't think he would even notice I was looking at the festival from such a distance.

"I was able to hear your heartbeat. The sound was familiar- and as I got closer, I was able to recognize it was yours! That's impressive? Right?"

It was impressive. But I had no intention on boosting his ego higher than it already was.

"We've been fighting together for five years and you're half-Kryptonian. I would hope you'd be able to recognize my heartbeat by now."

"I always knew I could count on you to be proud of me, Robin."

"You can't tell, but I'm rolling my eyes underneath my mask."

Jon just sighed, putting his hands in his jackets pockets. "What are you even doing here, anyways? It's not like there's anything suspicious going on down there."

"Maybe it's classified information."

"Classified information my ass. Why don't you just put on some normal clothes? Come hang out with me and my friends! It'll be-

"I'd rather get injected with fear toxin," I mumbled. "I was leaving soon, anyways."

I took a few steps towards the edge of the building and took out my grappling hook.

"By the way, I saw the way you were looking at one of those girls you're with." I opened my utility belt and tossed a condom at him. "Be safe tonight."

He caught it, his eyes widening. "What the crap?! I don't want this! Why do you even ha-"

His voice became silent as I jumped off the building towards the next one, holding on to the base of the grappling hook.

Being Robin means being prepared for anything.

When I got back to the manor and changed out of my uniform, I went straight to my room.

Just a quick nap.

Immediately after my body hit the bed, I felt my eyelids get heavy. So fucking tired.

I might be the son of Batman, but I'm still human, alright?

I buried myself into the sheets and felt Titus jump onto the bed and lay besides me.

"Good boy," I murmured to him, petting him softly before I let my body give in to the exhaustion.

Finally some fucking sleep.
