Walking down the rustic halls of the grand house, there was a slight eerie but soothing feeling of the house. It made me smile seeing all the photographs on the wall that grandmother had saved. Many photos of the family.
The whole house spoked "Grandmother" and it made the grieving less hard to bare. It felt like I still had a piece of her still with me. I was not expecting her to put me into her will and allow me to inherit this beautiful, Victorian-styled house, but it did make sense.
I was the only one who always came to see her and take care of her. I was the only one who listened to her, especially after loosing so many people in our family.
She was broken, but strong women and I loved her for that. She taught me how to be strong and perhaps that why right now I held a smile instead of a frown on my face. I knew that she wouldn't have wanted me to be upset.
She always told me stories of this house, she was so keen on the spirit worlds being real. Maybe it soothed her knowing that perhaps all her siblings and ones she lost were still by her side. She told me stories of seeing ghosts in the walls of her house. Some she knew, some she did not recognize but either way they were all beautiful and careful souls.
Walking into the main living room, I saw the silhouette of a piano covered by a sheet. It was Grandfather's grand piano that she couldn't ever get rid of. Especially since his pasting, she kept it but always left a sheet over it.
Walking over, it reminded me of another silly ghost story of her. She would always brought up that on sleepless nights when her heart was heavy for the love of her life, she would soon here the slow dings of the keys from the piano.
The first time had scared her but as she listened to the beautiful melody that came from the piano, her heart would slow and she'd feel at ease again. It was only the second sleepless night of hers that she decided to get up and confront whoever the mysterious pianist was.
When she peered over the railings down at the main living room, she was in awe as the sheet was thrown off the piano and she saw the faint presences of a young man sitting there playing at the piano.
She had told me that she never confronted him or interrupted his playing, only watch. But she had mentioned that she felt that he knew she was watching him because he played the exact song that Grandfather use to always play for her.
It was a sweet a story but I didn't believe it. A part of me wanted to but I knew that ghost didn't truly exist.
Even though my heart tinged with pain as I uncovered the piano, I wanted to feel the keys once more before I followed my grandmother's steps and cover it forever. I don't know if I could bare to see it everyday but I just needed to feel the same keys that Grandfather and Grandmother pressed once more.
