Lily pulled two ski masks from her shoulder bag and handed one to me. I raised my eyebrows.
"Ski masks? Why do you have them?" I asked.
Lily smiled slightly. "Well... I might've remember that there are guards and put them in my bag and then forgot there were guards again, and yeah."
"Interesting."
I pull the mask over my face and adjusted my bag so I could climb better.
"Ready?" I said.
"As I'll ever be."
Lily and I crept to the back of the house and duck behind a tree.
"Okay, how about we split ways? And meet up in Kelly's house when we find it?" I suggested.
Lily shrugged. "Fine with me."
We bumped fists, grinned at each other, then parted. I started walking in the opposite direction from Lily, ducking behind trees whenever a guard pass by. A guard turned the corner and I dove behind a bush, crawling on the ground to the next bush.
I arrived right at the back of the house and brushed the dirt of my jeans. I raised my leg and slid my foot into a tiny crack, hauling myself up and taking a firm hold of the ledge above me. I put my other foot, the right one, in another tiny crack. How come there are so many tiny cracks? But I'm not complaining. The more cracks, the better I'll be able to climb.
I climbed halfway up there when two problems occur. One, no more cracks. Two, a guard just rounded the corner and is walking directly below me.
I froze, not daring to move.
Please don't let him see me. Please don't let him see me. Please don't let him see me. Please d-
The guard stopped walking. I started panicking. Oh my God, what if he looks up?! I inhaled deeply and hauled myself up. And my head smacked straight in a window ledge.
"Ow!" I hissed, drawing my head back.
The guard looked around. Hoping he doesn't look up, one hand found the clasp of the window and turned the handle down. The window popped open and I ducked down to avoid getting hit. When the window was fully open. I stretched up and climbed in. Let's hope the window holds my weight. Not saying I'm heavy. I only weigh, like, 100 pounds.
I fell down on the floor, hitting the side of my arm. My shoulder bag fell to the floor with a loud thump. I froze, my eyes widening.
Please don't let anyone hear, I thought desperately.
I waited for a few moments. No footsteps came, so that's good. I moved again, closing the window. I grabbed my bag and looked around the room I was in. A king-sized bed with a canopy was set in the center of the room and next to me. A makeup table with a mirror decorated with crystals was set on the other side of the bed. A big wardrobe made of ebony wood stood next to the makeup table. The floor was hard and shiny that I could see my face in it. The maids sure do a good job of cleaning. Any rich house like this would have maids.
I crept over to the door and opened it just a few inches and looked both ways. Coast clear, no one here.
I walked out of the room and shut the door gently behind me. I walked down the hall quietly, but quickly. Another door was a few feet away from the room I just came from. I opened the door, then quickly shut it. Wrong room. It's covered with a gazillion pots of plants. Why the hell do the Hollisters have a roomful of plants anyway?
I shook my head and moved on, coming to the stairs, made out of shiny clear glass. Glass stairs. I snorted and started walking up. A large number 3 came into view and I guessed that this was the third floor. I saw a door across from the number 3 and opened it quietly, peeking in. A room with a large bed. Bean bag chairs. A makeup table. A closet. A very big closet. The floor covered in fluffy pink carpeting.
This must be Kelly's room, I thought.
I walked into the room and shut the door behind me. Lily isn't here, so she must not have found the room yet. I looked around the room, marveling the large desk with a spinning chair. I walked over to the closet and opened it.
Damn! A walk-in closet!
Am I getting jealous? Yep, I'm getting jealous.
I heard footsteps and panicked. Again, for the third damn time in less than an hour. I looked around for a place to hide. As the steps near, I dove under the bed and pulled the bag with me. The floor under the bed was pretty clean. Thank God.
I pulled the bag against me. The door opened and the footsteps came in. I heard the sound of the door closing. The footsteps walked around the room. I peeked out. And saw the familiar boots of Lily.
Lily!
"Lily!" I whispered, climbing out from under the bed. I looked up and froze. Because standing in front of me isn't Lily at all.
It's Kelly.
