After - Chapter 7

It's been two weeks since I've been back at school. Two weeks of getting use to the whispers about me and the snide comments from Lisa. Two weeks of learning to work with my tablet with Rachel help and two weeks being surprised by Jonah.

He went out of his way to help me and I didn't understand why. He would always say hello or open the door for me. He would even defend me against people who were being mean. I just didn't understand why he dealt with me?

" Maddy, why does Jonah try and help me, I never asked him too", I asked Maddy as we ate lunch together. Rachel had left to go to a cafe so it was just me and Maddy.

Maddy laughed, "Jess why does it matter  that he helps you, I think it's sweet", said Maddy.

" If he thinks I'm a charity case, he better watch out", I grumbled.

" You amaze me Jess, he likes you obviously", said Maddy. I shook my head and sighed.

"No one would want to love me because I'm blind", I whispered.

" Enough Jess, yes you're blind but that shouldn't stop you from getting anything you want which includes love", grumbled Maddy. " Anyway the school dance is a few days away and since we don't have dates, how about we go together", giggled Maddy.

I swear Mads has bipolar, I thought as I smirked at her. " Okay, pick me up at 6", I giggled.

" Hi Jess, can I talk to you", said a familiar voice and I turned towards the direction of the voice.

" Hi Jonah, what do you want", I asked.

"He's blushing", whispered Maddy quietly in my ear. I smirked gazing where I thought Jonah was.

" I was wondering if you would like to come to the dance with me, I'll pick you up", he grumbled. To say I was surprised was the understatement of the year.

" You want to take...me?", I stuttered.

" Yes", Jonah grumbled.

Maddy gave my hand a squeeze, signaling that it was okay. " Um... okay, what time", I asked. Without warning, strong warm arms encircled me, pulling me into a hug. I awkwardly hugged him back, feeling my face redden.

" I'll pick you up at six", Jonah whispered in my ear before I heard him shuffle off. I sat dumbfounded at what just happened.

" I can't believe he asked you out, he must like you Jess, your disability doesn't effect everything", said Jess, giving me a hug.

" Yeah", I mumbled quietly. My heart pounded in my chest and my stomach kept doing queasy flips. I hadn't felt like this since I first started dating Matt but it wasn't as intense after a few months. I thought my heart would never beat quickly again, I thought as Maddy gushed on how she will pick my dress and get Rachel to do my hair and makeup.

Do I really have another shot at love?

" You look beautiful Jess", smiled Rachel as she touched up my lipstick for me. I'd ditched my sunglasses for the night and was still adjusting to the light.

" Thanks", I said smiling. My heart was thumbing wildly like a cage bird at the thought of Jonah. I hadn't been able to take my mind off him since he asked me to the dance. I gave a start as the bell chimed and I heard my mum answer it.

" Hello you must be Jonah, your little brother dancers with my younger daughter", said my mum sweetly.

" Yes, he's the artistic one, my sister is too", said Jonah.

" Oh really, what is she good at", my mum asked.

" She's a singer and plays guitar", said Jonah. I hurriedly left my room, Rachel following close behind.

" Wow Jess, you look amazing", grumbled Jonah and I smiled.

" Thank you", I smiled as I felt him grab my hand.

" Have fun but look after her", said my mum.

" Don't worry Mrs Nash, I will", grumbled Jonah as he guided me out towards his car.

It was silent in the car as we drove towards the school, to the gym. I didn't know what to say and just said what was on my mind.

" Jonah, why do you help me, I don't need pity and I'm not a charity case", I whispered.

" I heard what that Matt did to you and how all your 'friends' except Maddy left you and I hated that", grumbled Jonah. By the tone of his voice, he sounded angry.

" I still don't understand", I whispered.

" I'm sorry, I'm not making any sense but I really like you and you'll probably hate me saying this but I liked you at first sight", whispered Jonah.

" It's the boobs", I asked  smirking. Jonah laughed and smiled shyly.

" Actually it was your eyes and genuineness that attracted me but yeah sure the boobs helped that image, not that they're massive, they're not but they're not tiny, I mean", stuttered Jonah.

I laughed, gasping for breath at his cute awkwardness. " I was teasing you, thank you, I appreciate your compliment but it doesn't explain", I began but he interrupted me.

" Why I help you?", he asked.

" Yeah", I said.

" Let's just say that I've had to deal with disabilities before and I wasn't very good with it and made their life harder, I was kind of an asshole", he grumbled.

" I could never imagine you as an asshole", I whispered and he chuckled.

" There is a lot that you don't know Jess but let's just have fun, I promise to be the perfect date", he whispered and I nodded silently as we headed for the dance.

The music was loud, I could feel the vibrations through the floor. " Want to dance", Jonah shouted and I nodded. Just as we stepped on the dance floor, a slow song came on.

" Um I'm not the best slow dancer", I said, laughing nervously.

" Don't worry I won't let you go", he said quietly and I blushed at his words. I felt him encircle one hand around my waist and the other on my back. I slowly reached up and held onto his neck as A Thousand Years played.

" God they could of picked a better slow song", I whispered.

" I find that if you are with the right dance partner, the song doesn't matter", whispered Jonah. A smile tugged at my lips at those words. Jonah dipped me and I gasped in surprise, holding tightly to him. He pulled me up and span me around before bringing me back to his chest.

"And besides I know you're the right partner for me", grumbled Jonah. I giggled as we danced around.

" Well, don't ever let me go", I smiled.

Jonah pulled me in close until his breath was tickling my ear. " Believe me, I won't", he whispered and I blushed, my heart beating wildly. I think I might be falling inlove, please don't let it end like last time, in darkness and pain.
