Remember Love {{{On Hiatus}}}

Chapter 4

-Demi's POV-

Amnesia.

Lauren has amnesia. She woke up two days ago without a clue as to who I was; she didn't even remember her own name. The doctor's explained that it was another side effect of her losing oxygen to her brain when her lung collapsed; seizures being the other one. They hoped that it would be temporary and that she would gain her memories back in a few more days and they advised that we not rush her with too much new information. We needed to give her brain time to heal on its own.

"Demi?"

I'm brought out of my thoughts by Lauren's timid voice. A small smile reaches my lips hearing my name roll so delicately off her tongue. I haven't told her exactly how we're connected only that we're very close and that's why I've been here at her side all this time. We made the mistake of telling her about how she landed up in hospital and the information proved to be too much for her and she ended up having a mild seizure. So we've decided to keep everything that we tell her to the bare minimum; nothing too shocking.

"Demi, are you okay?" Concern laced her voice as she tilted her head to look at me.

"Yeah, ba- uh Lauren, I'm okay. Just lost in my thoughts." I give her a gentle smile to cover up my near mistake. I nearly called her baby. As much as I wanted to wrap her up in my arms and cover her face in kisses, I knew that it would be too much for her to handle; especially after just waking from her coma.

"You wanna watch some TV with me?" Her eyes sparkle as she looks at me with excitement. There's not much to do when you're stuck in a hospital bed and I've been trying to keep her entertained for the last few hours without turning to the TV for help. Because we're both public figures, news of Lauren's condition has made its way onto all gossip sites and celebrity scoop shows; I knew I couldn't let her see any of it in fear that it would cause another seizure.

"How about we play another round of UNO instead?"

"Nooo, you suck at that game. I wanna watch some TV. Maybe we'll come across my favorite TV show and it will help jog my memory." She wiggles her eyebrows while giving me a goofy smile, making me let out a soft chuckle. Even though she doesn't remember anything, she still has a lot of her old habits and traits. Every time she does something like the old Lauren, my heart skips a beat in hope that she'll remember.

"I'm sorry but there isn't a remote and I'm too short to reach up there" I say with a fake pout. We had the nurses take the remote out of the room for this exact reason; we should have had the TV taken out as well. "How about we just talk?"

She rolls her eyes but shifts into a more comfortable position to face me. "Okay, let's talk. I can't tell you anything about myself and I haven't done anything fun lately, what with the coma and all so how about you tell me about yourself?"

I take a moment to think about what I can say. I need to be careful so that I don't overload her with too much information at once. She doesn't know that either of us is famous or that we were dating. Are dating? I don't even know if she'd take me back even if she did have all her memories.

"Hellooo! Earth to Demi. What's with you today? Or are you always like this?" I stick my tongue out at her causing her to giggle. "Oh real mature." I let out a small chuckle and playfully slap her arm and she immediately winces in pain.

"Oh my God, Lauren! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to-"

She bursts into laughter at my rambling. "Chill, I was kidding. God you're so gullible. I was shot in the chest and stomach, Demi, not my arm."

"You scared the shit out of me. Don't do that again!"

"I'm sowwy. Pwease forgive me" she says in a childish tone while pouting and giving me her best puppy eyes. I roll my eyes at her and mumble a fine which causes her to clap excitedly. I'm reminded of the old Lauren once more. At 28, she was still just a big kid at heart. "Okay, now tell me about yourself... Name, age, social security..."
