Mike Wheeler walked awkwardly through Starcourts doors, his arms glued to his side. Once he was sure he had passed the large amount of people walking in and out of the mall, he stopped and stood still. He looked around the mall, his eyes darting quickly from store to store. He was looking for a sign that, given it was the third week of June, should be outside at least one of the stores. His eyes finally met a place he knew almost too well, Scoops Ahoy. Ever since the mall had opened a few summers ago, every time he set one foot through the entryway, he had visited the place. Not all the time he went looking for a strawberry n' chocolate sundae though.
He actually had a few interesting memories there. It was actually the place that he and Max, Lucas's girlfriend, first met. He remembered sitting on one of the ruby-red seats with Dustin and waiting on Lucas to arrive, having no clue who he was about to meet and be greatly insulted by. Mike had never understood why Lucas had to date someone like her.
Mike had continued to stare at the store and done so for a few minutes, checking to see if Robin Buckley was there. She had been working in Scoops Ahoy for as long as the mall had been open to the public. She used to work with Steve 'the hair' Harrington but after a few years of scooping ice cream and many failed attempts of trying to flirt with girls, he left. Even though he no longer works with Robin in the mall, he still visits there quite often to help out.
Mike couldn't see any sight of the dirty-blonde girl, but something else caught his eye. Right beside Scoops Ahoy was another store. It was a clothings store called The Gap. Mike didn't really care about clothes and what ever else the store sold, what he did care about was the sign outside. He ran as fast as he could towards it, running past the boards of people that surrounded him. The closer it got to him, the better he could read it. Once he was only a few feet away from the store he was finally able to properly see what it said. The sign read:
𝙻𝙾𝙾𝙺𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙵𝙾𝚁 𝙽𝙴𝚆 𝚂𝚃𝙰𝙵𝙵!
𝚂𝙸𝙶𝙽 𝚄𝙿 𝙸𝙽 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝚁𝙴 𝙽𝙾𝚆
𝙽𝙾 𝙴𝚇𝙿𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙴𝙽𝙲𝙴 𝚁𝙴𝚀𝚄𝙸𝚁𝙴𝙳
𝙲𝙰𝚂𝙷𝙸𝙴𝚁 - __________
𝙲𝙰𝚂𝙷𝙸𝙴𝚁 𝟸 - 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒎 𝑱 𝑩𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔
𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙲𝙺 𝙿𝙸𝙻𝙴𝚁 - 𝘼𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙨𝙤𝙣
𝙻𝙾𝙾𝙺𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙵𝙾𝚁 𝙽𝙴𝚆 𝚂𝚃𝙰𝙵𝙵!He had never been so happy to read something in all the seventeen years of his life. You see, all of Mike's friends had all gotten summer jobs for themselves; until it was only him who didn't have one and, he felt embarrassed. Not for the fact that he didn't have one, because he originally hadn't planned to do anything all summer, but because he had lied about this to his friends. He said, as confidently as he could, to them; that he did have a job and that he would be working in the mall. When in reality, he hadn't a clue on how to even get one. So, being a mature seventeen year-old boy, Mike Wheeler decided to just turn up at the mall, a few hours later, and hope for the best.
Mike didn't know who William or Sarah were, but he didn't care. All he wanted was to have a job and that was all he saw. Suddenly, Mike's senses finally caused him to let go of the paper he was just about to sign with the dried up pen in his pocket. He had never done this before, he was only seventeen, but surely you don't just sign a leaflet? He decided to go into Scoops Ahoy to ask for advice from Robin who had obviously got a job. He walked a few steps from the clothing store and was suddenly hit in the face by the familiar scent of children, melting ice cream and fresh ice cream cones. He looked over at the counter and slightly smiled, It was Robin and she still was working there.
