Cordelia Windsor
My brothers and I are fairly close and they could usually tell when I'm off or stressed out of anything like that. Today just happened to be one of those off days for me. All the smiling and putting on an "I'm listening" and "I'm interested"' face for the suitors was exhausting, especially day after day.
Edward could tell I felt exhausted and overwhelmed but would never come out and say it especially to my mother.
She had her heart set on me finding a husband and that was the only thing she could think about, it was suitors this suitors that. Wear this dress and do your hair like this. But Edward took it upon himself to make it a caller free day for me.
My mother was not particularly happy with this decision. Her exact words were "Family day? That is a waste of time, do you realize how many men will be disappointed today, darling?" It was nothing out of the ordinary for our mother to say when it was the social season. As for my father? He really couldn't really care less.
He was no longer in a huge rush to marry off his little girl like my mother was, neither were any of my brothers in a huge rush to marry me off either, so they were happy for a day off for the family.
Francis saw that a play was playing at our local theater and decided to get the whole family tickets to go see it this evening. We didn't go too plays often, we enjoyed the opera more as a family, most of the time the plays made my brothers fall asleep half the time but today we decided why not try something different for a change.
I stared at all my dresses lined up in my dressing room closet that was in my bedroom trying to pick out which dress would be the best for tonight's events. Most of my dresses were light, pastel colors, which went well with my brunette hair and porcelain skin tone.
As I was thinking about what dress I should go with, I sat down so my ladies maid Edith could help me with my hair and makeup like she always does.
I always do natural makeup, I was never one of those girls who loved tons of makeup; as for my hair it was usually in some sort of half up half down kind of hair-do but me and edith decided on a twisted up-do type look for the night.
I decided on a powdered pink empire silhouette dress with a gorgeous bead job with matching shoes, it was one of my favorite dresses to wear personally.
It took a couple of hours to get ready, even though I was only spending time with my family, we were going out into the public as a family but especially me needed to look presentable to the public.
All eyes would be on me since they have been since the day I was named the diamond of the season. There was no room for any type of mess up or mess arounds during this time especially.
