The Lumiat was a peculiar Time Lord, and she was even more peculiar when compared to her past incarnations. Unlike them, she was a good Time Lord, going around saving people when the Doctor couldn't. Twice, she had met the Doctor and she almost couldn't believe that the Lumiat was the Master. But, times changed and so did the Master.
The Lumiat always liked looking at the time vortex as the Master, and this trait carried over into this new incarnation, who finally appreciated this wonderful space.
She had received a call from the Doctor to assist them in investigating abnormal events on the planet Trenzalore, possibly related to the mysterious Tardis appearances that both the Doctor and the Lumiat had witnessed.
Arriving on Trenzalore, she wandered into the town of Christmas, where the Doctor had regenerated into the first body of his second regeneration cycle. Regeneration has always been risky, as you'd never know if you would get a body that you'd like or if it didn't work at all and you die. Complete deaths that happened before the limit were rare, but have happened before.
"Lumi, over here!" called a familiar voice.
"Doctor," the Lumiat said, clearly annoyed. "Stop calling me Lumi."
"Well, it's a good name. You should keep it."
"It's really not."
The Doctor and Lumi walked together to the scene of the last viewing of this mysterious Tardis. It seemed that the people of the town had also witnessed this extraordinary sight many times, and called the Doctor for help.
"The citizens are scared, Lumi. It seems like the Tardis is stuck in its original Gallifreyan form."
"Can we catch it?" asked the Lumiat.
"I've installed a trap that should be able to stop Tardises from dematerializing into the Time Vortex."
"So what do we do now?"
"We wait."
Hours passed, and the Time Lord duo grew tired of waiting for this mysterious Tardis. Who was controlling the Tardis, and why was there such an interest in the Doctor and the Lumiat. They waited and waited to catch this Tardis, and it finally arrived hours later. The sound echoed through the quiet town of Christmas.
The two Time Lords quickly ran to the Tardis and broke into it using the Doctor's sonic screwdriver. Upon entering this new Tardis, they froze in a state of shock. The dark, shadowy interior of the Tardis brought back all of their old memories of their old encounters with the only other renegade that mattered. The interior was slightly rearranged, but they knew who owned it. This was the Tardis of the Rani.
"The Doctor and the Master. Together at last, the couple they were always meant to be." a voice said in the shadows, with a mocking tone.
"You're back." said the infuriated Doctor.
"Of course I am. Have you forgotten me?"
"I should've forgotten you, but I haven't."
"Good, you'll never forget me."
The Lumiat ran towards the Rani and hit the force field that surrounded the Rani, who laughed.
"You'll never defeat me. I have grown more powerful during my absence." said the Rani.
She chased the Lumiat and the Doctor through the dark hallways of this crazy Tardis and passed many test tubes with subjects of the Rani's experiments. Wires and junk continuously got in the way of their escape, but they managed to escape from the Rani for a little while. Hiding in a Tardis maintenance vent, the Lumiat had a plan.
"What if we just destroyed the console? It looks like that is what powers the Rani's force field!"
"Great idea!" said the Doctor.
The renegades slowly got out of the vent and ran to the control room, where the Rani was waiting for them.
"So, you're trying to destroy the console? Unfortunately, you'll die before you will." said the Rani.
"The only one dying today is you!" said the Lumiat.
The Doctor used her sonic to shut down the console, and the Tardis materialized back on Trenzalore.
Getting out of the Tardis, the Doctor thanked the Lumiat and promised to transfer the Rani to the Shadow Proclamation for adequate punishment. The Lumiat watched as the blue police box dematerialized and faded into nothingness.
Today would be the day that the Rani was captured. Today would be the day that the last of the truly evil renegades was locked up for centuries.
Today, the Rani died.
