Chapter 2: Naruto and Rei

A three year old glared at her friend that has messed up with her work like always. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence but nowadays she thinks that her friend has purposely sabotaged her notes and research books that she sneakily got from the Konoha Library. The said friend was now sheepishly rubbing his back with his ever cheeky smile since he knew that his friend will forgive him easily.

"Naruto." A girl with short black hair, onyx eyes that you would mistake as an Uchiha in first glance regarded her friend with a frown. "I've ignored enough of your pranks to others but do not make me a victim to some of it!" She angrily yelled showing some of the papers that has been tainted with paint.

It was December 23rd the snow has piled on the streets of the village and she couldn't afford to go out and buy materials that she needed. She was wearing her blue thick jacket, white scarf and black jogging pants to fight the cold in the winter season.

Her grungy room in the orphanage for the past year did not have any heat ventilation hence she wore the outfit everyday, there were visible red threads that was fixed by herself since she couldn't afford to buy new clothes.

Naruto winced at the volume of his friend's shout making it look like he was about to cry. He dropped his head and muttered an apology. "Sorry Rei." Naruto was also three years old, he sported his ever orange jacket and some white shorts his red scarf snuggly wrapped around his neck and some used sneakers. Rei, the student world traveller has made sure to make his outfit clean but right now his appearance was now fully covered in paint.

Rei only sighed in return. 'He rarely does this to me. Why did he do this now?' "Is there something wrong?" She asked calmly as she felt bad shouting at him earlier.

Naruto only placed his arms on his back, one of his foot pressing the ground as if he was being shy. 'Why is he being shy?' She was almost in disbelief at the scene before her.

"It's just that ever since you got those books on the desk you've been doing nothing but read them. We don't get to play like everyday anymore. I'm always alone in the playground when you're not there." He pouted and he looked at her briefly while his head was still down.

'He's so cute.'

She now had the urge to take a picture of this cuteness,but she doesn't have a camera. Now that is an added list to something she will buy in the future.

"Sorry, I'll play with you later when I finish cleaning the mess. Both Yuko-san and Hiro-san will be mad at me when they check this area later." She started to separate the clean ones and the ones she needed to revise for a later date.

Naruto then gasped making her turn her head to him curiously. "Yuko said something about an old man coming to check here later! She said someone important!" He then sat on a chair with his hands inbetween his legs looking excited

'Someone in the council or the Hokage maybe.' She thought. "Really? You didn't hear the name? Are they adopting?" She asked continuously fully aware that he will reply with three times of the words she said.

Naruto shook his head. "Well they only heard it from Kaori-san. Someone with a mask came by earlier in the playground to meet her too, it was weird. Then Kaori-san looked troubled about what he said then he gave her a letter. After that she just went to her office."

Rei fully listened at what Naruto had just said furrowing her eyebrows as to what could the letter be about. If it was the Sandaime he would have just appeared in the front door, he wouldn't send a letter in advance. 'Also a masked man? An Anbu?' "You heard about the old man coming after she came out again from the office?"
