Prologue

I quickly threw the gun away.

My hands were trembling as I looked at Marcus.

He fucking killed a man, and here I am, willingly helping him to dispose of the body.

I didn't know what to do, I love him. I don't want him to rot behind bars. We need to dispose of the body as quickly as we can.

"Let's go," he called. His face was paled, malikot din ang mga mata at hindi siya mapakali.

God, I'm risking it all. If I'm caught up in this mess I'm gonna lose my fucking license! This is fucking suicide.

I'd be accused of accessory to fucking murder!

"Where are we going to dispose of the body?" I asked him.

He shrugged and didn't talk.

Fuck, after forty-eight hours baka mag-file ng missing person's case 'yung parents or relatives nung biktima. And of course, the police will immediately hunt us down, the guy Marcus killed wasn't just an ordinary guy, he's a son of a fucking governor. I'm fucking doomed, we're fucking doomed.

I bit my lip and clasped my hands together.

I silently prayed. But for fuck's sake, I'm a huge fucking sinner. I feel so fucking guilty. I tried to stop Marcus but he was so fucking crazy that he just shot him dead.

He parked the car in front of an empty lot.

"Help me burn the body," he said.

Burn the body? That's his plan? Well, kahit anong tago niya pa sa katawan— That's a good plan, no cadaver, no case.

I gulped and nodded.

But I'm worried, the guy's dad is a governor, he's too powerful, that guy for sure has wide connections.

Marcus hopped out of the car. I wanted to stay inside the car but I had no choice.

I helped him place the body on the ground.

I looked around the place, it was just really an empty lot beside an empty house.

Marcus took some gas and he spilled it onto the body. He took out a lighter from his pocket.

I stared at the poor guy's dead body.

Sinilyaban na 'yon ni Marcus. I just watched it as flames ate the man's body.

"Let's get out of here after this," aniya habang nakatingin sa akin.

I nodded.

Napalingon ako sa kaharap ng lot. Bahay nga pala ni Marcus 'yon.

There's a girl looking at us at mukhang si Manang Theresa 'yon.

I held Marcus' arm.

He looked at me.

"Manang Theresa's watching us..." I said.

He just stared at me. He blinked a couple of times. "Don't worry, I'll silence her."

What?

"You'll kill her?" I raised my voice. I couldn't help it.

"No, susunod naman sa 'kin 'yon, Natasha."

***
Ang akala namin ay makakatakas na kami.

Hindi pa pala.

The news spread. It was sensationalized. And fuck, nadawit ako.

"For fuck's sake! Saldovar, what the fuck have you gotten yourself into?" hindi makapaniwalang tanong ni Travis sa 'kin.

He was sitting in front of me, across the table.

"I need a lawyer," I said with a stern expression.

"At this situation? 'Yung taong ginawan niyo ng krimen? Sa tingin mo makakakuha ka ng magaling na abugado?"

"Bakit ka ba nandito? Para parangalan ako?" I asked tiredly.

"Jesus! Natasha! Don't you realize what a big mess you're in right now, just because of your fucking stupid boyfriend!?"

Yes, my license is at stake, my whole career is at stake.

"You'll lose your mother fucking goddamn license, your goddamning license, Natasha."

I took a deep breath. "Get me a lawyer." I looked at him in the eyes.

"Fuck." Napahilamos siya. "If only I could fucking defend you, but I have a fucking case," he mumbled.

"Get me a good lawyer, Trav, 'yung kayang paikutin 'yung nangyari."

Kung mapapaikot namin. Damn, it's all over.

He sighed. He stood up from his chair. "Fine, 'wag kang gagawa ng isa pang katangahan, Natasha."

He walked out of the room.

***

I stared at him. He was sitting right in front of me. I couldn't look at him straight into the eyes.

His eyes were cold, he stared at me like, I was a nobody. He looked different, matured as always but now, he's manlier than he was before. The last time I laid my eyes on him was on graduation. Then after the bar, we parted ways.

He cleared his throat.

My body tensed. I was having an adrenaline rush.

"Tell me everything that happened, Miss Saldovar." he said. His voice was deep, baritone.

Something rushed through my veins.

What the hell is this? Why is he here? What the fuck is this stupid plan that that damn Travis Zendejas planned!

I didn't speak. I didn't want to talk to him.

"I want another lawyer," tanging nasabi ko.

"Just tell me everything that happened para matapos na 'tong katangahan mo, Miss Saldovar." His jaw clenched.

How dare him.

My lips thinned. I stared at him with my eyes glaring. "Nakakaintindi ka ba? Sabi ko, I want another lawyer, Atty. Suarez."

"You're lucky you have a lawyer like me, unlike your boyfriend Mr. Villanueva, he'd be good as dead or maybe he'll rot in jail," aniya ng walang emosyon sa mukha. "Now tell me, what happened?"

Seeing his face right now suddenly reminded me of the past. I know he's here for a job, no personal shits involved.

"Atty. Saldovar, hindi ka makakalabas dito kung hindi ka magsasalita diyan," he said.

"I said I want another lawyer, Atty. Suarez."

"Why?" tanong niya.

I don't know, kasi ayoko sa 'yo.

Hindi ko talaga alam. Basta may nararamdaman akong hindi ko gusto. Hindi ko alam.
