The weekend transitioned into finals week and Lo and I were finally forced to leave the cozy sanctuary of Kev and Tika's apartment to venture out in to the world and this new chapter beginning between us.

Lo refused to talk about what happened at his family's home but I guessed that was the reason he didn't rush home for the holidays. Ever since we'd returned, he seemed lighter and happier. I felt like that should have been the other way around.

"So ya'll together now?" Tika asked as we walked together towards the math building on Monday morning.

I shrugged. "Yea. I guess."

"You guess?" Tika giggled nudging me slyly. "Girl you know you got Lo Beckham's nose wide open. Never thought I'd see the day. So?? Y'all official or what?"

"Well he asked me. And I said yes.. so..." I smirked back downplaying the events of the night before.

The night prior, Lo grabbed hold of my hand as I was climbing out of his car to go back in my dorm. Stopping I settled back in his car and waited to see why he wanted me to stay. He looked all nervous out the front windshield and said, "hey before you go and find another Dellameo, I need to say this to you. I wanna say this to you... I wanna seal the deal Jay. I want you to be with me. No more Daytona."

I sighed at how he managed to fuck up Deyvon's name again twice. At least I was no longer Jasmine. That was progress. I decided to just let it go. "Ok... So are you asking me?"

Lo relaxed and said. "Yea. I'm asking you to be my girl."

I screwed up my lips thinking for a second about what his mom advised me about setting clear boundaries. "I'm not Ashley. I'm not dealing with all the shit you were putting her through for months. So..."

"I know." Lo responded seriously. "And I don't wanna play with you Jay. How I treated Ashley was a dickhead move. You were the main one telling me that. I'm going to apologize to her. And if you give me a chance I promise you'll see this is different. You don't have to answer right away but I just want to make sure you know now how I feel... where I want to stand with you before I miss my chance."

I nodded deciding. "Ok."

"So it's yes?"

"Yes. We can try it." I leaned forward and kissed him on the lips lightly before pulling back. "I'll call you after my last test is done tomorrow."

He smiled, his entire face brightening and let me climb out of his car.

The next afternoon, Lo picked me up on campus so we could go back to his apartment. There was no doubt that everyone saw me climb into Lo's car. And it wouldn't take long for this to get back to Ashley and every other girl he'd ever messed with.

"There's gonna be a lotta hate thrown your direction." Lo looked over at me warily as I settled in his passenger seat. "Stay over at my place. At least until things die down a bit."

I bit my lip knowing he was right. Lo's apartment building was off campus and gated so there would be a lot less issues there particularly while I was trying to concentrate on passing my tests. My math test was my last final and in three days. We still had two more units to cover too. "Yea ok."

He pulled over in a gas station and got out. "Aight. Get in the drivers seat."

"What?" I frowned confused.

"Get in the drivers seat. I wanna make sure you can drive my baby before I hand her over to you."

"Really??" I didn't think Lo let anyone drive his car. It seemed like he loved it more then anything else in this world.
