I lay my head on the back of the passenger's seat and closed my eyes as Lo drove us deeper into what appeared to be the middle of nowhere. He wasn't lying when he said we wouldn't be disturbed.  I hadn't seen a sign of human life since we left the highway a few miles back.

Opening one eye, I looked out of the hellcat window through the sunglasses I had thrown on my face as I left my dorm room.  Thankfully Ashley and Helen had cleared out before Lo and I returned to get my bag. I would have never heard the end of that.  "Umm? Where are we? There's nothing here."

"My family owns all this land." Lo explained simply.  He finally made a turn off of the narrow two lane paved road on to an even narrower dusty gravel road.  I pursed my lips as I read the sign at the corner, Beckham Road.

There were two nice sized two story houses not far from the corner. Lo pointed as we drove past. "My grands live here part of the year. Usually during the summers and for holidays.  Senior has his own place back beyond my parents house. My Uncle Sonny's staying there right now."

I squinted as we continued further down the gravel road before coming to a gated driveway. Lo got out to open it with a keypad before pulling into the driveway which led to an enormous sprawling house. It was even bigger then Tika's fathers home.  Maybe mansion was a better descriptive for this place. It looked more like a hotel or some sort of resort then someone's home.  I had met Lo's family once before but I was beginning to feel nervous anyway.  I rubbed my palms together to release some tension.

Lo pulled up in front of the house.  He hopped out and then walked over to my door waiting for me to get out. "Come on. Let's go in the house and say hi. We'll get the bags after."

"Ok." I followed Lo into the enormous entrance way that opened up to the level above. He led me through to the back where a large chef's kitchen sat. A television was chattering on about the local news and it was filled with smells of good food cooking.  Lo's mother stood at the sink talking to his dad.

"Hey Ma. Pops."

"Baby! What are you doing home?" She came around the counter to hug him. "And you finally brought Janae!"

She quickly moved from him to me, hugging me warmly and saying, "how did you manage to get him here in the middle of football season??"

I hugged her back and stuttered, "I.."

"Ma. We came to study." Lo answered for me sounding abrupt. "Finals are next week and we needed a quiet place. Away from all distractions. Plus apparently Jay likes you guys."

"How ya doin Jay?" Lo's dad hugged me too.  I smiled and replied, "I'm good."

"When'd you start studying boy?" Lo's dad chuckled, eyeing Lo suspiciously now. "You the only kid we have who ain't studied a day in his life and yet still manages to make straight As. Just like your mama. And of course your girlfriend likes us, we're likable."

Lo frowned at his father not bothering to greet him and moving to the refrigerator. "Whatever you say pop. And I am studying this weekend. So can we use the pool house?"

"Sure." Lo's mom smiled brightly. She looked at me hopefully. "Are you all staying the entire weekend??"

"Yes. If thats ok." I replied.

"Yes of course that's ok." She moved back towards her husband. "I'll need to go grocery shopping then. And your sister and brothers should be home soon. They'll be so excited to see you both."

"You can use the pool house to study but you're sleeping in the main house. In separate bedrooms." Lo's dad added seriously.

Lo cut his eyes.  I could feel the tension literally wafting off of the two of them.  Lo looked angry all of a sudden. "It ain't even like that. And we're pulling all nighters so you can put us up anywhere. We'll probably only be catching naps on the pool house couch anyway. Besides I'm a gentleman."
