"Done by lunch," said Irene as she glanced down at her watch. "I guess wolves are more efficient than I thought."
"Of course, they are," said Will with pride as if he had some hand in the matter. "With pack loyalty and an established hierarchy, werewolves are easily the most efficient clan in Whisper Valley."
"Efficient at moving things around," said Dean with a playful smirk on his pale lips, "but when it comes to more serious matters, they're positively sloppy."
"Oh yeah," said Will, rising to his feet as the visiting pack disappeared into the hotel and their truck headed down the street. "I don't know what you're driving at, but just because wolves aren't afraid to get their claws dirty doesn't mean they aren't efficient."
"Tell that to their poor prey," replied Dean as he rose up with a stretch. "When it comes to the hunt, wolves treat their kills like rag dolls. It's gruesome carnage. Vampires are not only quick and efficient, but also elegant and tidy."
"Vampires are definitely cleaner with their work," said Armand as he scratched in a last note in the margin of his pad of paper, "but, they aren't the end all be all when it comes to assassins."
"Why are we arguing about murder?" asked Irene, with a splay of her hands as she surveyed the men of the group.
"Just reminding Will," said Dean with a wink at his muscular friend, "that should he continue his pursuit of the furry life, it comes with a nasty conversion."
"I'm not a furry," growled Will.
"What's wrong with furries?" posed Armand, looking ready to add another page of notes to his book.
"Does it matter?" I asked as I snagged the last biscuit from our plate of Spencer's goodies. "Anyone can be a furry."
"It is a lifestyle that thrives on the concept of inclusivity," pointed out Irene who sipped from a now empty cup of lemonade. After frowning at her drink, she tossed it in a nearby trashcan and continued. "The whole point is that you're connecting with a sense of self that you can't express in your human form. Right?"
Everyone shrugged.
"Are you a furry?" asked Will.
"No," she replied with a glint of defensiveness in her eyes as she glared at Will from overtop her glasses, "but I don't question people's life choices if they aren't hurting anyone." She then gave the side eye to Dean who responded with an apologetic grin.
"Fine," said the young man with vampire aspirations, "I was just playing. Truth be told, I just want Will to join the goth side of the force."
"I like the sun too much," said Will as he stepped out from the shade and spread his arms up towards our nearest star.
"Yeah, I could do without it," said Dean with a shiver. "Speaking of which, I'm ready to go somewhere inside and air conditioned. Anyone want to split some fries at the Brew and Stew."
