After my conversation with Soukaina had finished I left the kitchen to make my way over to Fatima's bedroom and found her door just open by ajar.
I opened it and peaked in to find her laying on the bed with her back to me. I walked inside the room quietly, closing the door behind me, and stepped out of my trainers to approach the bed.
She still hadn't moved until I sat on the edge in front of her and laid my left hand on her head, brushing my fingertips along her silky Hijab.
Fatima awoke to my touch and slowly looked up at me. When she saw me she smiled and moved her head to rest on my lap.
'Hey,' she whispered.
'Hey,' I smiled.
'How did it go with my Mum?'
'It went all right. She gave me permission to marry you and said you are to give birth to my children.'
Fatima's eyes shot wide open as she quickly raised her head up in alarm and stared at me.
'What!?' she almost screamed.
'Just kidding,' I said chuckling.
With a roll of her eyes Fatima pushed my arm before she rested her head back down on my lap, a sly grin I noticed formed on her face.
'So what did you really talk about?'
I cleared my throat a bit before speaking.
'She just wanted to make sure I understood how much I meant to you and everything you've done for this relationship. I told her I wouldn't let anything get in the way of us, especially not your dad.'
Fatima began to bury her head in my lap.
I stood up for a moment and laid back down on the bed beside her, allowing her to rest her head on my chest. I took her right hand with my left and wrapped my right arm over her.
At least now she was comfortable and I could see it made her relax.
'That better?' I asked.
She nodded her head to which I gave the temple of her exposed forehead below her headscarf a gentle kiss.
'So how was your brother's party?'
'It was really good, despite everything. My aunt came over with my cousin and we went for a ride up the Rock. We took him to see some of the apes.'
I chuckled as a very fond memory popped into my head from when we were both in college last year.
'I'm guessing he was less scared of them than you were?'
Fatima snorted.
'I wasn't that scared.'
'Yeah, keep telling yourself that,' I argued with a giggle.
'I wasn't!'
'You may have forgotten the college trip up the Rock in the cable car, but I haven't,' I said with a smug look on my face.
Fatima rolled her eyes as she thought back to that day.
The college had organized a trip up in the cable car and Fatima and I both went up with some members of our class and other students and teachers. When we got to the cable car station at the top we all took a look around the gift shop and cafeteria.
Some of us had bought ourselves a few bits to take with us and needless to say Fatima had bought herself a big bar of chocolate which was poking out of the small bag she'd taken with her. When the teachers had organized a group photo with all the students we stepped outside of the cafeteria to stand by the terrace looking down over the rest of Gibraltar.
