Chapter 7

ENJOY

Cadence sprinted on the treadmill, but as her pace steadily increased, she thought of all the stressful things that happened to her this week, and boy was it tiring. Sprinting was a technique she used when her mind was swimming with thoughts, and because of the fast pace, it made it easier for her to process and think about what she wanted to say. And, this time around, her anxiety was off the charts. Sweat dripped along her face, down to her neck and then finally dropped to the floor. Cadence was ready to begin her cool down, so she turned the settings to a slower pace so she would be able to jog and catch her breath. A few minutes later, she jumped off the treadmill and headed to the weight room.

As Cadence sat down on the seated leg press machine, she let out a loud sigh because she knew how much of her energy and strength would be tested when she is finished with these sets. She extended her legs and counted down, twelve, eleven, ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, fuck, she said while breathing heavily. When she was finished with her set, she eased her legs down gently so that the weights would not hit the floor and cause too much noise. When she took a swig of water and caught her breathe, she continued with the exercise for another 2 sets and then finally switched to another machine.

Cadence was in deep concentration as she looked at herself in the mirror while she did her exercises. The gym was one of the few places where she actually felt comfortable and relaxed. Struggling to maintain her anxiety was something she had to deal with since she was a child. But as she got older, with the help from her therapist, guidance from her mother and support from friends, she learned how to manage it. This is why the gym and exercise were vital and to her. At 6:00 pm, she was finally finished with her workout and was ready to have a long hot shower when the phone vibrated.

"Hello.''

"Hi, is this Cadence?"

"Yes, she speaking."

"Oh, hi, you sound different on the phone, even sexier actually."

"Camilla?"

"Yes, sexy, it's Camilla she said while laughing, how have you been, it's been a while since you know..."

"Ahh, yes it has... umm nothing much going on here on my side, I'm just heading home from the gym."

"Nothing? I find that hard to believe. I remember the last time you were telling me about your best friend Lexi and the kiss..."

Cadence smacked her head with her phone while the other hand cradled the steering wheel. "I forgot I told you that, umm yeah, things have been you know... a bit better, but there's clearly tension between us."

"Hmmm, I've been thinking about your situation, and I was wondering if you would like to come over to mines... so we can chat a bit? I know this is kind of last-minute, but my partner and I, were talking about it, and I.. well, we... were wondering if you wanted to come over and chat about it with us? I think that we can help with this situation.. we'll give you some sort of guidance."

Cadence bit her lip, she really wanted to go home and get some writing done, but it did sound like a good idea. She had been thinking about it non stop and barely had the chance to talk to Eve about what she had been going through. And, plus she found that meeting Eve's partner might be interesting since she had never been in that kind of position before.

"Umm, yea.. yea, I'll come, sure, why not."

"Yeah, yay, I'm glad, I really think we can help you. I'll have some drinks waiting for you if you like? I know that would help you."
