The Long Night

We've been driving north down dirt roads for what seemed like days.  Yet, all of this gave me time to really think about everything that just happened to us. Why bandits?  Why no military? And what the hell is up with this Phen guy?

Zach then begins to talk.

"Fuck, those bandits shot up the bags of food. We only have 6 cans left, think we can make it to the next town in two days or so?"

"I don't know man, the terrain is slowing us down a lot, and Phen  can't seem to find a road anywhere. "

"Well hope we can make this last."

It's nearing night, and still not a town in sight. Plus, Phen hasn't bothered to let us talk to him.  Just makes me wonder how much gas we have left.

We begin to slow down and the engine begins to putter.

"Fuck."

I begin to bang on the drivers cabin.

"Phen, how are we doing. "

"We're all out, just running on fumes now."

As he finished his sentence, the trucks engine dies.

"And now we're fucked. "

Phen then opened the door,  crawled down, and began to stretch his limbs without even looking at me. Then Zach stood up on the trucks bed and proceeded to stretch himself while letting out a long yawn.

"Well, another night and now we're out of gas. What now? We don't have a map. Should we just wait till morning?"

"I don't know, it's a fairly narrow road,  lots of tree's for people to hide behind."

"Hmmm, you're right, should we try to keep moving?"

Phen begins to talk.

"We can't move, not with all these bags of gear. We have more guns than food at the moment.  Maybe we should try to make contact with someone through the radio."

Zach counters, infuriated.

"Are you fucking serious?!  We still never asked you those questions about what happened back there! I'm not gonna let you call for back up!"

Hitting Phen in the head with the but of his rifle on the side of his face.

"Now explain what the fuck happened? Why did you leave,  where were you and why were the Bandits on the same channel?"

He strikes him again.

I then intervene. Placing my hand on Zach's shoulder.

"Relax,  we need him alive, plus, we need a new mule to carry these bags."

"He could be the reason why those guys had to die!"

"He probably is, but let's just use him until we either get more gas or find help. We could use the guns to exchange for food or gas."

Disgruntled,  Zach agreed.

"Fine."

He then grabs a bag out of the truck and throws it at Phen.

"Put it on, bitch."

I pull him up on his feet and give him a pistol with an empty magazine. While Zach proceeds to grab the two other bags for Phen to put on his shoulder.

"Just incase something goes wrong."

I look over to Zach.

"Let's get going."
