When you were younger you were always asked "What do you think your future will look like." Well, most kids answer's would be like "I want to be a choo choo train driver" or "I want to be a teacher." But I was different. I didn't want to plan out then and there what I would tell the class. I didn't want to be judged. I didn't even want to stand in front of the class and say my name but when the teacher called on me, I had no choice.

————12 years later, 11th grade.————-

"Delaney!" "Helloooo earth to Delaney." Kids snickered all around and I snapped out of it.

Ever since my mom died I haven't really been the same. I went from being an all "A" student to failing three classes. I went from having a healthy relationship with my family, to it being just me and my dad. But he was usually always in work meetings.

You lift your gaze from the window and look at your English professor. He doesn't seem amused considering this is the 3rd time this week he caught me spaced out.
"Miss Brown, please stay after class." Mr. Salman said with a disappointed glare in his eyes. I looked down to the ground as I felt the whole classes eyes judging me. I tried to keep my eyes low. Stay focused. Get the assignment done.

Right before the end of class Mr. Salman made an announcement, "If I could have your attention for just a moment class. Tomorrow we will have a new student. He goes by the name Peter Parker. Now I know some of you may know him but since there is only one seat left Mr. Parker will be sitting beside Miss Brown. You look up to Mr. Salman in shock. You always sit alone in every class, including lunch.

You could sense the classes disappointment. "New guy in class and he sits next to the weird girl. Give me a break"

You we're going to offer someone else your seat, but the bell rang. You stay seated waiting for everyone else to leave and walk up to Mr. Salman's desk. Your head was low, you weren't meeting his eyes, and your eyes watery.

"Now Miss Brown, I assume you are aware about the recent drop in your grades." He waits for you to answer but all you do is nod your head in agreement. "Well then, I really need you to start trying a little harder to not zone out and listen to the curriculum I am teaching you. I know your mom's death has made a tremendous impact on your life, and school grades. But you are going to need to bring your grade up before the end of this semester, or I will see you again next year. And we wouldn't want that would we."

My heart sank. I knew this topic was going to come up at one point, but I was just hoping that I could get by.

You respond quietly, "Yes Mr. Salman, I will try my best to bring it up."

You start walking out of his class room before Mr. Salman says one last thing, "Oh and by the way I know Peter sitting next to you might be abnormal and weird for you, but I am hoping that he can help you out a little bit. He sighs. Well that will be all Miss Brown, thank you for your time. Now go try and catch the bus.
