Peter got up, slung his old drawstring bag over his shoulder, and quickly made his way out of the classroom just as the bell rang. He had been staring at the clock the entire period, waiting for the numbers to read 3:35 so he could leave as soon as possible. He had to if he wanted to make it to Stark Tower on time, and he was determined to make a good first impression. Being late on his first day would not help with that.

He practically sprinted down the hallway and out the front doors of the school. He had been debating on whether taking the subway would be faster than walking throughout the school day. Eventually, Peter decided he would walk, or run really. There were too many variables that could make him late if he took the subway, not to mention he hadn't been able to take the subway since he got his powers. It was just too much on his heightened senses.

He ran through the New York City streets as fast as he could. He was still exhausted from his small encounter with the Avengers last night and the pain in his side was more present than the usual achy feeling. He also hadn't eaten anything since his mind-boggling lunch with Tony Stark, and the lack of nutrition was starting to catch up to him, but he pressed on. This internship was extremely important to Peter, and he was not going to let fatigue ruin the one thing that had gotten him out of bed this morning.

Peter had gotten some weird looks and some car horns honked at him, but he didn't pay them any mind. He ran down the sidewalks and across streets without caring if he got hit or not. If someone ran him over and he died, he wouldn't mind. He might be bummed that he wouldn't get to experience what the internship had to offer, but it would solve all his problems and save him the trouble.

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and checked the time as he turned the corner and ran up to the front doors of the tower.

3:57 pm

Peter let out a sigh of relief at seeing that he had made it on time. Before walking into the building, he took a second to make himself look a bit more presentable as he caught his breath. He ran his fingers through his hair in an attempt to tame the brown curls, used the sleeve of his hoodie to wipe the sweat off of his forehead, and readjusted the worn-out bag that had jostled around while he ran.

Alright, Peter. Don't mess this up like you do everything else, he thought to himself before taking one last deep breath and opening the door.

As soon as he walked into the building he immediately felt self-conscious. He felt very underdressed in his dark hoodie, jeans, and falling apart sneakers surrounded by men in expensive-looking business suits and women in pencil skirts and nice blouses. Peter kept his eyes down and tugged on his sleeves as he made his way to the front desk.

Behind the front desk was a woman with dark brown hair that was up in a neat bun and dressed like every other woman that Peter had seen. She had her eyes glued to the computer screen and didn't notice the timid teenager standing in front of the desk.

Peter probably stood there for longer than was normal in hopes that the woman would look up and see him without him having to get her attention. Unfortunately for him, she was too into whatever she was doing to take a quick peak away from the computer.

"E-excuse me, miss?" he said to get her attention. It had worked. The woman looked up from what she was doing and her eyes met the boys'.

"Hello. What can I help you with?" she asked with a friendly smile on her face.

Peter reached into his pocket and fumbled with his phone, trying to pull up the email he had received to show the woman. "Hi. I'm Peter Parker. I'm here for the Stark Internship?" he said more like a question as he turned his phone towards the woman so she could see the email.
