CHAPTER 4
Ryder
I sink down to the floor as the door shuts and I hear his footsteps disappear. My heart is breaking once again. I can’t believe that I let him walk out of my life, again. I pull myself up from the floor when I hear Liberty’s door open.
“Who was that hot guy?” Liberty asks.
I try to walk towards my room but she blocks my path. I glance up at her as I quickly answer her. “Nobody just someone I used to know.” I go to move around her again but her hand grabs my wrist stopping me.
“You’re lying.” She says.
I try to put on my best shocked face but I don’t think she believes me. “I’m not.”
“I call your bullshit. There is something about that boy you’re not telling me.”
I pull my wrist away from her grip as I manage to get around her. “I’m not lying.” I holler as I walk back down to my room slamming my door.
I sit down on my bed to go through my bag. I want to make sure everything is here. I sent Madame Sapphire a texting hoping to diffuse the situation before she freaks out. At the bottom of the bag I find a piece of paper with Hayes number on it. I crumble the paper up in my hand and toss it towards my garbage can missing. I hear my phone go off, I dread looking at it because I know she’s going to be pissed.
MADAME SAPPHIRE: Come over in the morning so we can talk. I hope you have my money!
RYDER: Okay
Shit I knew she would be pissed. I pull out the money Hayes gave me so I can count it. He gave me more than enough money to pay her. I tuck the extra money away in my hiding spot and leave the rest out so I can pay her. I hear my phone buzzing again. Great she’s going to yell more, I think as I walk back over to check it.
HAYES: I hope you found my number in the bottom of your bag but just in case you threw it away, I thought I would send you a message.
RYDER: Wait how did you get my number?
HAYES: Glad to know this is your number. When you’re ready to talk, I will tell you how I got your number.
RYDER: I have nothing more to say so I guess I don’t need to know. Goodbye
HAYES: You don’t have to tell me anything right now but you will have to talk to me sooner or later.
RYDER: Well that’s going to be hard since you don’t live down here.
I close out of my message and plug my phone in. There if he does respond I won’t know. I need to go to sleep and get this day out of my head.
…
I toss and turn all night long as everything plays out in my head. I can’t believe that Hayes was here but it was only for a bachelor party so I won’t have to worry about seeing him again. I finally force myself to get out of bed a little before seven. I need to go to Madame Sapphire’s before I start my internship today.
By the time I get to Madame’s house my nerves are through the roof again. Maybe she will just take her money without a lecture. Maybe she will just let me go. God I wish I could just get out of this business but that’s why I’m finishing up school so I can do something better with my life. I punch my code into the box at the gate. Slowly they open and I drive through them and up the drive.
I pull the money out of my purse hoping I can just hand it to her and then be able to leave. I’m not in the mood for talking and I don’t want to be late on my first day. My internship is at North Advertising. I never wanted to go into advertising until I started school down here. North Advertising is the biggest advertising firm in the Las Vegas area. I push all thoughts out of my head as I knock on her door. After a few minutes she finally answers the door. She doesn’t look very happy at all. She steps aside so I can step inside.
I hold out the money to her before she can say anything. “Here is your money.” I quickly spit out.
She takes the money and I watch her count it. I can’t believe she thinks I wouldn’t give her all of it. She looks up at me and says, “Do you care to tell me who that boy was that came by here last night?”
I shift uncomfortable as I think of the best way to answer her. “Umm… nobody. He’s just a guy I use to know. Don’t worry he won’t come back. I promise.” I make my way to the door and start to open it. The faster I get out of here then the faster I can put last night out of my head. Before I can get out the door I hear her voice making me cringe.
“You’re luck all of the money is here. I’m going to need you to go see Mr. Young tonight” she states firmly.
Shit I know I can’t get out of it. I swear I will never be rid of her she will always find a way for me to have to stay in debt to her forever. “But…” I stutter out.
“It’s not a choice. Do you understand me Ryder?”
“Yes,” I answer defeated as I make my way out of the house and down the steps to my car. Mr. Young is one of the best customers and he always requests me. Don’t get me wrong Mr. Young is hot and sexy but sometimes I just get tired of doing this stuff. I mean I like it but I want it to mean something. Never in my life did I ever think I would be having sex for money. I shake my head feeling alone and defeated as I get in my car and drive to my first day North Advertising.
