"why are you being so mean to me?!"
It was a question Hinata asked his parents everyday, and he never got an answer. His parents were homophobic, and Hinata being gay made them resent him and become mean and cold to him. He hated it, he always felt like he was doing everything wrong just being himself. And he knew that wasn't right, but he didn't feel like he could talk about it to any of his teammates.
He figured that they would side with his parents, and he didn't know why he felt that way, but he did. As the time went on and Hinata got more and more distant from his parents, he got closer to volleyball. Nothing would stop him from playing it.
A few weeks had past, and Hinata had gotten lost. He would go on runs to exercise, and on the run he wasn't paying attention. And had gone somewhere he hadn't recognized, as he was looking around he heard a voice from behind him.
"what are you looking for?"
It was a rather flat tone that made him spin on his heels. And as he seen Ushijima he was kind of nervous. So he was trying his best not to freak out. "I-. Uhm, nothing really, I just got lost. I wasn't paying attention on my run so I don't remember how to get back home."
He had put a hand on the back of his head as he looked to the ground, too embarrassed to even look at the taller male in front of him. It made him feel so small compared to him.
"Well if your lost then maybe I can help, where are you going for and I'll give you directions." His tone still quite flat as he offered to help. Hinata just gave a small nod and had given the taller male the name of his school, since he knew how to get home from there. "Uh, Karasuno?"
That made Ushijima look at Hinata for a second. Then realize who he was. "Your that small jumper on the Karasuno team, I guess not seeing you in your school gym clothes put me off." He had pointed Hinata in the direction he needed to go.
"It's that way, hope you get home safely." As Ushijima started to walk away Hinata just stood there, going home? He hadn't thought of that. "Yeah.... Home..." He mumbled, but that was heard by the taller male.
"Is something wrong with your home?" Hinata had nodded a little as he started to clean his face to hide his tears. "Would you like to come with me then? I'm going to Shiritorizawa, want to come and practice with me a little?"
Hinata had lit up at the sound of practicing with Ushijima, nodding a little. "Yes please, if I won't be a bother anyways." Ushijima had gave a slight smile for the first time today. "You won't be, I needed someone to practice with anyways."
As the two made it to Shiritorizawa, and Hinata was lent some gym clothes, they began to practice, Hinata cheering up quite a lot from it. And Ushijima not showing how glad he was to be helping the smaller male out of a toxic situation. But Hinata would have to go home eventually.
"Come by the same time tomorrow, it's Saturday sure, but we can use the day to just be in one another's company." Hinata had nodded with a smile. "Shure thing Ushiwaka Senpai!" Ushijima had shook his head. "Just Ushijima." Hinata had nodded a little, a small pink tint going across his face from embarrassed.
One month later
As the time went by, and Hinata was hanging around Ushijima, he became more happy and got better at his spikes. Kageyama had came to him during practice. "How did you get so good Hinata boke?" Hinata had jolted at the more angry tone. "I have been practicing with someone when we had time... He taught me how to hone my skills and combine them." Sugawara and Daichi came over with smiles. "That's great Hinata! You're improved a lot over the month, so ready to tell us who your learning from?" Sugawara had his normal gentle tone with a kindness too it.
Hinata just shook his head. "No, not yet. But as soon as I am ready I'll let you all know, don't worry Sugawara Senpai." Hinata gave a smile and was so happy. But he was actually sad and terrified, he needed to go straight home today. He couldn't go to Shiritorizawa today, so he couldn't see Ushijima.
"Hey Hinata, let's walk together today. You always leave as soon as you can and alone." Kageyama had spoke up again and Hinata nodded a little. "Okay yeah, let's walk together Kageyama."
Once practice was over Hinata and Kageyama helped clean up and they changed, starting their walk down the hill towards their split off point. "Who are you so scared of? You look terrified, like before a game. You better not puke!" Hinata shook his head. "My parents scare me, but it's in a parental way, so it's not in a bad way." Hinata had obviously lied, but it wasn't caught. "Oh, I guess parents can be scary, but nothing is scarier than some of the things you've done."
Hinata had nodded a bit and waved bye at the split off. And when he seen his house in view he seen a car in front. 'Ushijima's car? Why is it in front of my house?' He was confused as he walked into his house and seen Ushijima sitting with his parents.
