Chapter XVI - Labyrinth of Darkness

"Yukari stop!" Tommy shouted as he ran towards Yukari. But she had already begun running down the stairs as fast as she could. Before Tommy and Artyom could get to the door it slammed shut in front of them.

"Oh you idiot!" Tommy shouted as he tried to wedge the door open. After his efforts proved futile he ran over to his walkie.

Fritz turned a sharp corner and slammed into a wall. He corrected himself and kept running down the hall with his lantern held in front of him. In his panic he suddenly heard a voice come over his walkie. But unfortunately the connection was still mostly severed. All he was able to make out in the static was, "Fritz... shhhh... Yukari... shhhh." Fritz's eyes widened as he grabbed his walkie and held it up to his mouth, "what!? Yukari what!?" He whispered in a panic.

Suddenly from behind him he heard a haunting humming along with fast footsteps approaching.

"Oh for fuck sake." Fritz sighed as he began to run into the darkness again. As he ran he tried to think about where Paul had ended up. He was worried for his friend but knew that if anyone could shut up and hide it was him.

After running down a few more corridors Fritz quickly turned a corner and banged into something, sending him down to the floor.

"Ow!" a voice said from the darkness. Fritz quickly whipped his lantern up to see what he'd run into. As he shined the light he noticed that he had run into.... Yukari!

"Fritz!" She shouted as she stood up smiling. "I thought you wer-" Fritz jumped up and covered her mouth.

"Shhhh! Be quiet!" He whispered as the hall went silent. After a few seconds Fritz realized that it was too quiet. Before he could say anything he heard a voice from the darkness begin to laugh, "what do we have here?"

Yukari's face turned pale as his eyes opened wide. Fritz without hesitating grabbed Yukari's arm and began to drag her into the darkness. He held his lantern as he looked around for some sort of hiding place or exit. Fritz ducked into a room dragging Yukari along with him. They ran over and hid behind a flipped table. Fritz placed his lantern down and rested the back of his head on the table.

Yukari peeked over the table into the darkness shaking. "W-what the hell was t-that thing." She stuttered.

Fritz placed his hand on his head, "Why, the hell are you down here." He muttered angrily.

Yukari sat back down and looked at Fritz, "w-well I wasn't gonna leave you down here. And it sounded like you were in a lot of trouble..." she said, moving her gaze to the floor.

Fritz looked over at Yukari, "I don't wanna hear it! You should not be down here, period!" Fritz sternly whispered. He then buried his head in his hands and sighed.

"B-but..."

"Stop! Just stop...." Fritz rubbed his head as he looked into the darkness.

Yukari frowned and looked down at her feet.

Fritz looked over and saw her looking defeated. He sighed and placed his hand on her shoulder, "listen to me. Until we're out of here you take orders from me, so you understand?"

Yukari looked up and nodded. Fritz nodded in return. If anything happens to her I swear. Fritz thought to himself. The situation was bad enough with him and Paul stuck in the murder labyrinth. But now that Yukari is tangled up in this, there is no room for breathing.

Fritz's ear peaked up as he heard footsteps coming down the hallway. He quickly turned off his lantern and placed his arm on Yukari's chest. They listened as the footsteps scurried by the door and continued down the hall. Fritz exhaled in relief as he relit his lantern. He looked over at Yukari who still had a terrified look on her face.
